Improve Transmog chest for alchemists

#1 Post by ghostbuster »

For an alchemist, after a large level, there may be 40 or 50 items to turn to gems, which is rather tedious.
Why not improve the transmog chest? When clicking on it there an option to turn to gems metal items in the chest.
Not sure, it is really coherent in terms of lore, but certainly very convenient for players.

If it's convenience we're after, why not have it so that when you activate the "metal to gem" ability, it gives you a list of available items, and the ones you select don't get converted.

Almost like a delete all command.

Hm, isn't there already a fortress option to do just that, or was that just zOmnibus? Anyway, I'm pretty sure that it exists.

I don't think so.
What does zOmnibus is to autotransmog gems.

Yes there is. It costs 40 energy to rig your transmog chest to autoconvert metal stuff into gems if the final value is higher.

Just talk to the Shadow. It's there!

Just be aware, it turns items into gems and transmorgifies them. If you want to keep the gems, you need to extract them manually.

That doesn't really do what the OP wants, though; it extracts the gem and then transmogrifies it. What the OP wants, as an Alchemist, is to extract the gem and keep it.

That was actually one of my primary motivations for writing the Use Item Shortcuts addon. Among other things, it adds an "Extract gems" option to the use-item dialog for metal armor and weapons. So all I have to do is walk through the inventory and pick out the metal items to extract gems from. Not quite what the OP described, but I was already walking through the inventory picking stuff out of the transmo chest, so it worked out for me.

Why would you want to keep the gem? Alchemists don't need a huge amount of gems; they can certainly get by with transmogging all but a tiny fraction of the metal items they pick up.

*blink* Um... because (a) I'm using them up in the process of creating (and using up in turn) alchemist gems, and (b) they're a finite resource, bounded above by the number of gems and metal armor/weapons I can accumulate. If I'm critically dependent on a limited, non-renewable resource, of course I'm going to keep every last scrap of that resource I can carry; why on earth would I do otherwise?

But you'll easily find many, many times more gems and things to turn into gems then you could ever possibly use. Keeping all of them is just wasted potential money and fortress energy.

Aren't gems the only non-renewable combat resource in the game? I don't find it surprising that people hoard them, even if it's totally irrational. When I first played an alchemist I worried about using them up too.

In that case, we certainly don't want to add an option which makes such hoarding easier. That would imply that such hoarding is useful or even necessary.

Sure, I agree with that. Besides which if you're not transmuting them the transmutation chest has no reason to be involved.

But really I think the current system is to blame. Make gems "reload" indefinitely like quivers and this would go away. It's a slight buff alchemists might well not need, but it brings them into line with every other resource in the game.

Infinite source of gems means infinite source of money, which is probably a game breaker.
