Brotherhood of Alchemists extras for an Alchemist

#1 Post by Zeyphor »

I think that an Alchemist should be able to make alchemy potions for the brotherhood of alchemy quest.

Even when you're finished, you'll still be able to make one of any of the 12 alchemy potions that are initially available to the other classes, but only if you haven't made one yet, and provided the needed ingredients, of course.

You'll also need to find an alchemy lab somewhere, maybe getting friendly with Angolwen would provide one?

For taking the spot in the brotherhood of alchemists, you don't get an infusion of wild growth, a lifebinding emerald, an elixir of invulnerability, or a taint of telepathy, instead you get something else, maybe access to the brotherhood of alchemy itself at a location in the west that is until then hidden from you.

Theres alot of room for creativity in the brotherhood of alchemists zone.

For an adventurer to be able to do this, you would need to get multiple alchemist categories, excluding golemancy/advanced golemancy.

You would initially get the quest by talking to one of the alchemists in Derth, Elvala, or Last Hope, or by speaking to the hermit.

During the first dialogue with one of those guys, you can make the decision to either help the alchemist, or to try to get into the brotherhood of alchemy yourself; choosing to get into the brotherhood yourself makes the 4 alchemists dislike you and not make you potions, if provided the ingredients.

If you help one of the alchemists get into the brotherhood of alchemy, you not only get their reward, but you also get access to their laboratory to make yourself the potions you didn't get made that are listed in the quest description, provided the required ingredients.

This is sounding like a significant boost to alchemist power. Do they need it?

I'm rather coming into agreement with the argument that we should be calling them "artificers", actually - as there are alchemists in Eyal that are nothing like them.

I figure the classes you get are more combat-oriented versions of the actual professions. For instance, a PC Necromancer cannot create a permanent undead army, which even the loser in the Blighted Ruins can do. The PC's limited to short-term minions sustained by their necrotic aura. The reason, as I see it, is that the PC doesn't want to settle down and spend months to years creating some proper undead monsters, so they've just learned the quick-and-dirty, combat-applicable part of necromancy.

The same holds true for PC Alchemists. They can't make elixirs and join the Brotherhood, because that takes a lot of time and study (the dialogue implies that the Brotherhood contenders have spent a lot more work on their elixirs than we see; the quest ingredients are just the finishing touches), and the PCs are adventurers. The PCs have spent a lot of work on their golems, but beyond that, they've focused solely on bombs and the like. They can't make elixirs, because that takes too much time, nor imbue gems into jewelry, because that takes specialized training that they don't have.

arent alchemy and jeweling two different professions?

the guys in angolwen and the gates of morning don't imbue gems into rings, they just attach the gem to the ring
