New Resolution(s)??? Fullscreen with "letterbox" frame?

#1 Post by TheFinn70 »

This is my first post, so let's get something before I explain my idea..

DarkGod, the game is awesome. From the 20 or so characters I've burned through so far (with level 13 being my current record) it's obvious you're cruel and as uncaring as Fate herself. You've already broken me to a degree - I'm now playing Adventure mode because I REALLY want to unlock more of the races and classes and my roguelike abilities aren't getting me anywhere close.. lol. I'll be supporting financially as soon as the holiday season is done. So, as much as I want to rage at you much of the time, thank you for an amazing game.

My suggestion.

I normally play in 1280x720 windowed, with my monitor set to 1280x1024, which gives me room under ToME to keep an eye on things like chats.

The *only* thing I've found frustrating while playing is how the various UI elements get in the way of things. Alt-W is ok for a quick kill, but if it's a serious situation, you'll need to hide and show the UI every action to keep a close eye on your status effects. Unlocking, moving, relocking so you can keep a close eye on that rare that just spawned behind the chat window is a bit clunky (and for me, stands out as clunky because every other part of the interface is smooth and mostly intuitive).

If I use the fade option, I might as well not have chat running because I miss so much when my focus isn't devoted to the chat.

I moved to full screen and started experimenting with the options to see if I could fix things (tile sizes, scroll options, etc.)

I notice when it loaded in full screen, it was still 1280x720 but in a 1280x1024 environment. It leaves this beautiful black "letterbox" style frame above and below the actual game area. The top and bottom portions aren't accessible - the mouse won't travel into them.

Could such a resolution be set up on purpose but making the full screen available - setting up a 1280x720 play area within a 1280x960 or 1280x1024 environment? It would give an area where UI elements could be moved and they'd never cover or hide the game action. There'd be room at the top for all your character windows including skills and mini map and room at the bottom for chat and the game messages.

Regardless, thanks again for an awesome game!
