That depends on the religion. Some shamanistic practices involve letting oneself be temporarily taken over by some form of spirit, for example. But these paranormal entities don't necessarily have to be gods in the sense we're talking about here.Grey wrote: But a strong corruptor takes on forms on demonism his/herself. That would be sacrilege were it a religion, no?

Good point. I suppose there's the whole thing of what you call religion, how you define worship, etc.snoop wrote:That depends on the religion. Not generally, no.Grey wrote:But a strong corruptor takes on forms on demonism his/herself. That would be sacrilege were it a religion, no?
If it were religious, it might be like Vodun possession, or speaking in tongues, or praying for the strength to do whatever it is you wanted to do. (I think that what corruptors do is NOT particularly religious, but that's a different topic.)
It's not particularly sacrilegious to try to emulate that which you revere.

In terms of adding religion to the game, maybe some Horror cults? People who worship one particular Horror which twists and taints them into monsters with a smattering of Horror powers? That might be cool.

I see three posibilities:Doctornull wrote: ...maybe some Horror cults? People who worship one particular Horror which twists and taints them into monsters with a smattering of Horror powers? That might be cool.
You find a cult of something harmless, like a Drem or Bloated Horror. Not too bad, might even be fun crushing their cult.
You find a cult of something dangerous, like a Worm that Walks' cult, or a Devourers' cult. Not dangerous if you're both lucky and prepared.
You find a cult of Oozing Horrors. Then you die. Because they all want to be little oozlings, and... yeah. Not fun.
What about Wyrmics and their reverence to Wyrms? That seems fanatical, if not fervorous. And seems like it would follow a similar idea. Maybe a new class is in the making? One who mimics aspects of the Horrors...
Re: Gods!
Horrors have no independent thought. There's a definite religious angle to them, but I can't imagine anyone worshipping them without turning into a mindless horror themselves (like The Mouth). Plus very few even know of their existence, and only a tiny handful understand their source.

Not to appear hostile, but when was understanding something central to worshipping it? Some of them probably wouldn't worship such forces of horror if they knew just what exactly that entailed...Grey wrote:...only a tiny handful understand their source.
I'm curious though, how many corruptors know just what it is they're working towards under the Grand Corruptor's reign?

Re: Gods!
One might be tempted to deify the horrors if they knew they were the scions of an actual god. The end result is probably indistinguishable from normal Amakthel corruption, of course, so it might just be a flavor thing. The Revanchist wrote:Not to appear hostile, but when was understanding something central to worshipping it?
Now I'm wondering what's up with the cultists of Shasshhiy'Kaish. They're fanatical enough to kill themselves over her. Is that all just personal loyalty?
Re: Gods!
It's possibly more than religion, too. They may not have known that the ritual would actually kill them. My general take on demons is that where the blight is potent enough and the membrane between ME and FS is thin enough, they can speak through the barrier and do nasty things, often things that make it more likely for them to gain access to ME. Some demons, anyway, since the variety of their plane is great. They all like food, though. And vim is food, and the vim of ME is really easy to harvest.Mewtarthio wrote:One might be tempted to deify the horrors if they knew they were the scions of an actual god. Re: Gods!
nice and plentiful answers (and semi-creepy
)
yeah my opinion is that you don't need knowledge too much about what something really is to worship it.
So but that's all a bit sideways about gods in tome
Nice to know that there are some wicked mad cults, I feel better already.

Sorry.
I figure he was one of the first gods to redacted when the redacted went on a redacted and redacted every god. He just couldn't get away... Something about a global speed penalty.
