Color coding question

#1 Post by Sianist »

any chance of getting a sheet somewhere (either in game or in wiki) where it can be seen which color items is which rarity? ... as in that white is common, green is 'uncommon', yellow is artifact and blight orange(?) is random artifact

Green has 1 minor ego, blue has one major ego, purple has 2 major egos, orange (randart) has more than 2 egos (which is max for a "normal" item). The pinkish (I was told it was salmon) items are rares, they have a random set of effects rather than egos. Yellow items are artifacts, they have predetermined abilities.

Before you ask, ego is a set of abilities that an item has (like say 'of resillience' which gives +hp). The numerical values scale with the tier (or material) of the item - so a cashmere cloak of resillience will give more hp than a linen cloak of resillience.

Hope that helps.

Close, but not quite. Green can be either one minor ego or two minor egos. Blue can be either one major ego or one major, one minor. You can tell how many egos an item has by checking the name: A double-ego item is named "[adjective] [material] [item] of [noun]," while a single-ego item is just "[adjective] [material] [item]" or "[material] [item] of [noun]."

Oh, and white items have no egos at all: They lack special powers but can be used as base items for building stronger gear in a few circumstances (for instance, you need white rings to get customized magical jewelry from Angolwen and a white weapon/armor piece to get Crystalline gear).

In terms of rarity, you can't really pin down a rarity, since the loot is based on your level. When you're in High Peak, you'll probably find more purples than greens, while I'm pretty sure blues and purples won't spawn at all in the Trollmire. Shops sell a relatively high number of ego'd items, while vaults tend to hold more artifacts. Most bosses are guaranteed to drop a certain number of artifacts in addition to several pieces of high-quality loot (which can also be artifacts). For instance, Wrathroot will always drop at one artifact (there is a 25% chance that this will be his Barkwood) as well as five pieces of boss-quality loot (which tend to have good egos and may even be artifacts themselves).

Salmon items always drop from "rare" creatures (random enemies with PC classes). Such items are quite bizarre; you might get a real gem, but the vast majority of salmon items are junk. Randarts can also have strange powers, but those are at least based on existing egos appropriate to the item in question; salmon items draw from a much larger list of random powers.

To sum up:

White: No egos
Green: Lesser egos only
Blue: One greater ego
Purple: Two greater egos
Salmon: Unpredictable
Orange: Randart; powers based on multiple egos
Yellow: "Fixed" artifact with preset powers
[redacted]: Heh. You'll find out eventually...
