Sure, but what I mean is:
Smelting: Melts down a piece of equipment into half its weight in [Material] Ingots.
It makes perfectly sense, too bad jewelry only weighs 0.10, so... you'd have to pretty much smelt 20 jewelry pieces to get 1 ingot (which I guess would be what will be needed to craft a piece of jewelry) and I don't think setting a min cap on the number of ingots for every smelting is a good idea, because getting an ingot per piece of jewelry would be ridiculous. Maybe this could be solved including ingots as monster drops? I suggest every drop that consists of gold pieces right now could have some percentage of dropping ingots instead.

That's a good point. I also think that for most intelligent races it's a good idea to have them occasionally carrying ore. Why? In most medieval-esque fantasy societies, ores were a trade good. Having a bandit carrying some iron or steel makes as much sense as gold, and it could easily be explained away as the creature stocking up to make their own gear.

That's why I like bouncing ideas off of people rather than myself. Others can see things from a different perspective. :)
