An Update to the Tutorial

#1 Post by Anno »

Alright. So. The tutorial is really more of a dungeon crawl at this point with a number of annoying things between the average user and the information they want.

Solution? I have one for you! You know that awesome orb that allows you to control people? It's perfect for this. Instead of having one long dungeon with everything in it, a central hub would be a much more productive and cohesive idea. The hub would have a number of different signs next to orbs that allow the person to take control of a specific character with a number of talents that allow the user to play around with and understand the topic of the area.

For example, one orb would have a sign saying that movement spells would be dealt with in this "arena." The play could then choose to take control of a person using the orb, who would be in a large room with lots of examples set up that would allow them to showcase all the nifty movement abilities. And of course there would be signs on the ground giving more in-depth instruction on what each does. Perhaps re-use the runes from the current tutorial, but keep them all accessible at any time, and allow the user to simply do whatever they want with them. That would allow the newer player to get a grasp on any and all concepts (s)he feels that (s)he lacks a good knowledge in. And with a centralized hub, there could be a lot of in-depth areas for more experienced players who want to understand a new build's playstyle without investing 10 hours to figure out that Talents A, B, and C aren't as good as they originally thought.

Overall I believe this would be a considerable improvement over the current system, and would let people actually learn about the game instead of being bashed upside the head with it.

Really great idea. The advanced tutorial seems like a lesson in advanced boredom (although I think part of the problem is that the saves vs. power thing is just too damned confusing).
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).
