sandworm queen item drop

#1 Post by rjrrt »

Could the sandworm queen drop her loot in a nearby non-collapsing part of the floor, similar to xorn in daikara? She dropped her loot in a tunnel that collapsed and I had to wait about 5 minutes before a new tunnel was created over that spot.

Well if the loot drops on a clear floor tile, theres always the chance that sand collapses on top of it 1-3 turns after, aka, that solution wouldn't really "fix" the problem. Its something you have to deal with in that zone, part of the difficulty.

Note that he said non-collapsing, not non-collapsed. That zone always has areas that never collapse.
Alternative solution could be that the zone on wich the queen dies doesn't collapse. Reason being that the corpse stuts the walls. Though this would still be troublesome if the route to it collapses, you'll be able to get to it using phasing, teleport, or if one of the tunnellers dig through one of the 8 surrounding walls. (I prefer the solution of op)

Eating the heart should let you mind-control the tunnelers.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).

Or maybe allow you to tunnel through the walls like them while in the sandworm lair.

Since killing the Queen is the point of the dungeon, giving the player this ability would allow for a far less tedious cleanup for missed items and enemies.

I rather like that the zone specifically breaks the habit of believing you should kill all enemies and collect all treasure...

Personally I always make sure to kill old Queenie in a room to get my gob round her heart.

Does it really? It's not like the zone is dangerous. The only reason you wouldn't kill all enemies and collect all treasure is because it's tedious.

I think the zone could use one long, winding path, and only a handful of tunnelers. Tunnels will only remain interesting to an experienced player if they have tactical value.
