UI improvement suggestion

#1 Post by Elkan »

It would be a nice touch if non-targetable AOE spells such as Kinetic leech, Ice storm, Pyrokinesis etc. Showed their area of effect when you mouse over their icons on the hotbar, as currently with no prompt for targeting these abilities it can sometimes be tricky to judge if the AOE will reach certain targets, either at long ranges or when their is partial cover restricting the AOE's blast area. Alternatively, a less elegant but simpler solution might be to simply have these abilities prompt a normal target selection but with only the actor available as a valid target (refusing to move the target cursor off the actor, not prompting the "really target yourself" message) leaving the choices to enter and accept, or escape out of the ability selection.

Thoughts?

I like the mouse hovering option the most. Having to confirm keyboard presses makes using the skill more annoying.

I think that's a really good way to handle that, Elkan. As for self-targeting only as a means of previewing radius, I think that small modifications to the code that handle those abilities is all that it would take. The first could be the default, and the second could be an interface setting (since the first doesn't help primarily keyboard users).
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).
