Class idea: Renegade mage

#1 Post by Goblinz »

So here is the general idea of the class. A mage was exiled for practicing either "evil" magic (necromancy) or just plain magic that was too dangerous. because they were exiled during their careers they have not mastered the normal magics (they know some) or the magic they were experimenting with. So the general "formula" for this class is have 1 tree for 1 branch of evil/unstable/dark/dangerous magic field and one tree that can modify other spells.

So they would have the basic elemental mages trees along with conveyance (maybe some other utility trees)
then here are some rough tree outlines

Dimensional dabbling - (needs better name)
summon demon - calls a demon for X turns but it takes Y turns to summon
Hasten summoning - allows demon to take less turns but there is chance that a negative effect could happen (think anomaly style effect but more likely to be bad) (also this is a sustain)
Call Greater demon - The demon can be a major demon but there is a chance it will be hostile (and if hastened and even greater anomaly chance)
Gate - designate a tile to become a gate (only works if player is in sight) the gate will summon demons as above talents with all the negative effects - (the gate drains mana while active)

Blood fueling - (also needs a better name)
blood power - sacrifice X% of health for temporary increase in spellpower
power leach - damage enemy and convert % damage dealt to health BUT there is a chance it will damage you instead
Conversion of blood - convert health to mana
blood rage - increase mana regen and speed but you lose X% of your health per turn

Necromancy
Deaths blight - deals blight damage- at level 3 it will remove an effect or disease the target
Raise corpse - when you kill someone with Deaths blight you will raise a corpse - max of one but increased at tlevel 3 & 5
Bind spirit - gives targeted undead (not self) some talents (more possibilities at higher levels) but there is a chance it will go hostile
Call shade - shade is summoned that will deal one attack (deals large amount of darkness damage) (can target the caster)

Shadow magic - (also needs better name)
Shadow Lance - short range beam of darkness
Shadow Creep - A slow moving wave of darkness originates from the caster
Shadow cloak - Become invisible and increase darkness damage and resistance (decrease light) but every tunr there is a chance you will be brought to the shadow plane for X turns
Shadow Plane - bring targeted enemies to the shadow plane - there are shadows that will attack them (and maybe you to)

Forbidden Fusion -(only one active at a time - all drain mana while in use)
Shadow Merge - spells deal extra darkness damage but there is a chance a hostile shadow will apear
Distorted spells - spells deal extra temprol damage and may phase door the targets - but there is a chance of that damage effecting the caster
Blood Fueling - spells deal extra blight damage but each time that happens health is lost
Necromantic spells - enemies killed raise as undead (could be hostile) when X friendly undead have been made the spells end

So there are some ideas of mine. any suggestions or comments are welcome
Those who complain are just Volunteering to fix the problem

Dimensional Breaching/Dimensional Tearing?

Burning Blood maybe? Otherwise it's blood mage, which while it's already used by those ever-so-charming Rhaloren, to me it might draw the unwanted attention of BioWare lawyers.

Call of (the?) Shadows/Call of (the?) Night maybe? Shadow magic is also OK, IMO.

Otherwise looks cool. Maybe these spells would use mana and a new resource called Breach? Each spell adds to the Breach resource pool, the pool acts as a chance that with spellcast a demon-anomaly like you've been talking about happens, but these are weighted slightly towards being bad. Yes, you might get an amped-up wretchling to fight for you, but then you might also get a hostile OOD dúathedlen to spawn next to you instead. Each time something gets spawned, the Breach pool is reset.
Having satellite internet is a lot like relying on the processes described in those RFC's for your internet. Except, instead of needing to worry about statues interrupting your connection, this time you worry about the weather. I have satellite internet. Fun, no?
