Some talk on IRC about how annoying freeze is made me think of a way to make it less unavoidably lethal when you don't have 100% stun resistance...
I propose that the frozen status be changed to a damage shield that absorbs 50% of all incoming damage whilst also rendering the recipient immobile. The other 50% of damage is received as normal (with armour and resistances applying after the 50% calculation). The shield will have a limit of damage it can sustain - if this limit is reached before the frozen effect wears off then the ice is shattered and the recipient is freed, albeit it in a chilly state. The limit of damage the shield can absorb will be based on the spellpower from the initial Freeze cast (or whatever equivalent based on the source). The limit shouldn't be too high to prevent it being a sure kill for any player/enemy.

Re: Freeze as a damage shield
I like this idea. It seems funny that I can Freeze an npc and then set it on fire with a Flame spell without it thawing.
Re: Freeze as a damage shield
Maybe freeze could work like a damage shield in other ways too.
Say it reduces all damage by 50% instead of increasing resists but once it's absorbed X damage the effect (and the stun) breaks.

That's what I was trying to say - thanks for wording it more eloquently :)edge2054 wrote:Maybe freeze could work like a damage shield in other ways too.

Perhaps freeze would also absorb 100% of fire damage, so fire won't hurt the target whilst encased in ice but it will melt the ice faster than other damage types.

I think you worded it fine Grey... I must have been reading before my morning coffee or while distracted by the kids and must have skimmed your postGrey wrote:That's what I was trying to say - thanks for wording it more eloquentlyedge2054 wrote:Maybe freeze could work like a damage shield in other ways too.

Anyway, yes yes. I agree
Re: Freeze as a damage shield
I may have been the person to suggest this in chat actually(or maybe not - I don't remember, though we did have a discussion about chat).
Anyway, if it was me, I'd handle Frozen as a long duration(ice takes a while to melt) damage shield that is vulnerable to fire AND the target would also take significant cold damage each turn - meaning that using this defensively on yourself isn't such a good idea unless you have a lot of cold resistance.
