Slave Class idea

#1 Post by tiger_eye »

Well, actually "freed slave" class. The premise and description are as follows.
You were born into slavery and you know one thing: survival. Many masters have used you, abused you, and then sold you to your next master. You have finally gained your freedom after many trials and tribulations, and you are eager to explore the world. You were never properly trained; instead, you have a hodgepodge of semi-random talents and techniques that you have learned in order to survive. It is time to exact your revenge.
I'm thinking that this class could have a couple of slave-specific talent trees and a couple other fixed talent trees. The rest of the talent trees can be either (1) semi-random, (2) chosen, or (3) semi-randomly chosen. I don't know if I would prefer (1), (2), or (3) yet (or none of the above). If the race of the character is magical, then perhaps they could have access to some magical trees. Non-magical races would not have access to magic. I have a couple ideas floating around about what the slave specific talents could be and how to structure semi-random talent trees, but I'm interested to hear your ideas.

I think this class should be focused on Constitution and Willpower. The third main stat would depend on other talents and how the player decides to play.

Oh, and obviously the slavers compound could be of special significance to this class.

Sorry this isn't very well fleshed out--I kinda have a different project I'm working on right now :)

I know I might sound too negative but...this doesn't seem to fit with the other classes at all.

'Slave' isn't an occupation per se - the game features slave warriors/brawlers, but that doesn't mean that slaves have a specific skill set.
This is especially true if we're talking former slave - why would you have your own talents/trees up to level 50 simply because you were a slave? The class description to me sounds more like a mix of zerker/rogue(not properly trained, focuses on survival).

Actually, if you're no longer a slave, why call the class 'Slave'either?
If the race of the character is magical, then perhaps they could have access to some magical trees. Non-magical races would not have access to magic
Not liking the sound of this too - keep in mind we already have racial trees to differentiate races.

Also really not liking the idea of random/semi-random talents - I don't think there's anything that makes me think 'slave -> random collection of skills/not properly trained'.

If there was any character option related to being a slave, I think it should be done as a 'background'/extra descriptor type - thus in addition to race and class, like T2 having 'Hermit', 'Barbarian' and so on....

However I think that's outside of the T4 development plan for now - and would likely take a lot of work to do well, as you'd need miniquests/areas for each. As a slave you could try to escape on your own, organize a revolt, and so on...so yeah, lots of work to do it right.

On the other hand, you mention having specific talent ideas - these could be interesting anyway and could perhaps be used for other classes/things.
