Able to sell magical items in Zigur?
I know the stores in Zigur no longer sell items tainted by the arcane, but they still buy magical items. I think it would be thematically consistent if they didn't buy magical items either.
Re: Able to sell magical items in Zigur?
But reward you an appropriate sum of money for bringing it to he destroyed?
Re: Able to sell magical items in Zigur?
Haha, nice. Along this line of thought, Zigur should also reward you for killing magical escorts as an anti-magic character. After all, you're supposed to hunt them down pursuant to rule 7 of the Zigur, aren't you?As it is now, you just let magical escorts go if you're anti-magic
Code: Select all
7. You will actively hunt down and bring suffering upon any you suspect of using magic, communing with spirits, demon worship, or any you suspect of aiding others in these acts.Re: Able to sell magical items in Zigur?
If you could get rewards similar to escort rewards for killing them that would defiantly narrow the gap between magic and anti magic. However killing escorts is pretty easy so instead you could find the portal guarded by a few magic users and you could kill them for a reward. Or you can use the recall portal to go to their base and slaughter them all and then get the reward. either of these options would need careful consideration for balance.

I like the idea of Zig not buying arcane items in theory. In practice it's more load screens to deal with.
Re: Able to sell magical items in Zigur?
Just don't put it back in the store's inventory... ? With a fancy text. No extra load screens or anything.

Re: Able to sell magical items in Zigur?
There some simple solutions to both these issues.
As for selling magical items--Zigur buys them from you as a bounty so they can be properly destroyed. They can't be bought back.
For escort quests--add a new quest and some text when you join them. The quest is that they are seeking information on who is creating these portals so they can destroy all knowledge of them. Don't want magicians just popping form here to there so they can't track them. They give you a device that sends those using such portals to Zigur where they can be interrogated.
The escort quests then continue as normal, but you escort gets sent to Zigur and you get a different reward list based on a non-magical talent tree.

A device? Not a magic device, I hope...
Instead for escorts I would recommend giving them the option to flee, or attack them. Killing them gives xp + guaranteed ego loot (nothing too powerful).

catwhowalksbyhimself, I like both of your suggestions. The Ziguraunth are bound to have anti-magic techniques. After you trick a magic user into teleporting to Zigur, perhaps the kind folk of Zigur will have another potion waiting for you. Um, you just don't need to know how they made it

Of course not. We don't really need to know HOW it works, just that it's something they cooked up which disrupts magical portals and redirects them to Zigur. They are pretty good at that sort of thing.Grey wrote:A device? Not a magic device, I hope...
It doesn't need to be a potion. Indeed, there doesn't need to be any explanation at all. There certainly isn't for the current escort awards.tiger_eye wrote:catwhowalksbyhimself, I like both of your suggestions. The Ziguraunth are bound to have anti-magic techniques. Heh, you're correct about that. I guess the easiest thing to do would be to allow anti-magic characters to escort magical characters normally. The reward choices could be the same upon completion, just without the spells. After you've collected your reward, then you trick them into teleporting to Zigurcatwhowalksbyhimself wrote:It doesn't need to be a potion. Indeed, there doesn't need to be any explanation at all. Here's a reference of what the rewards would be without spells:
injured seer (+2 Magic, +1 Willpower)
lone alchemist (+2 Magic, +1 Dexterity)
lost sun paladin (+2 Strength, +1 Magic)
lost anorithil (+2 Cunning, +1 Magic)
Perhaps the rewards could be modified to include something like "spell save" for anti-magic characters.
By the way, there is only about a 38% chance for an anti-magic character to get a non-magical escort. This is annoying (and not fun!), which is why I think this should be addressed.

Re: Able to sell magical items in Zigur?
The rewards always include the magic stat and usual magical related talents and categories. Replacing them with non-magical substitutes is necessary to put them on the same level. Having it being the Zigurites giving the reward for helping them capture portal users makes sense.

Antimagic users can now "escort" magic users.
The ending however is .. different
