It would be a melee class using a… crystal sword. It would be a bad, bad two handed weapon unless powered by a gem. When that happens, it combat statistics change (based around the level of the gem) and it gains the gems damage type. Plus, the stats that affect it would be Will and Dex and the wielder would also gain the gems powers, as if imbued.
I've managed to implement this so far but I still have a few doubts:
1) If I change the gem on a sword, do I get back the one it had? I’m inclined to say yes, it would be nice to be able to adapt to the situation. I was thinking on a talent to be able to use more and more powerful gems on a sword and maybe on level 5 it would be a free action to change the gem, allowing us to have the right weapon for almost every occasion
2) Is the power of the gem permanent? I was thinking that the power of the gem on the sword could slowly deplete making us have to change it every once in awhile. It would make less permanent weapons and maintain a hunt for gems… not really sure about this one as there will be a few talents that also destroy the gems
As for new talent trees(all use psi):
- Crystal Focus – Some utility powers based on Will
o Cristal Use – Allow the use of gems on crystal swords. More levels mean more powerful gems. Free action to change the gem on level 5
o Third eye – Imbue a gem into a helmet
o Burnout – Increase the power of the gem on your crystal sword for x rounds. Gem is destroyed after use
o Impact – Launch the gem on your sword and it explodes. Not really sure about this one as a 4th level talent…
- Crystal Edge – A more combat oriented tree, based on Dex
o Sharp Crystal – More damage with crystal swords
o Resonating Crystal – Stun attack. More levels mean more damage and more time stunned
o Lunge – Beam attack, striking everything
o Razor – Several(2,3?) attacks and heavy bleeding
- Mind over body – Mental powers, based on Will
o Deflect – Sustained. Increases defense
o Push – Like Willful Strike. Really cool power
o Mind healing – A regen power
o Combo – Two weapon strikes followed by a Push. More levels, more damage
- Crystal Mind – A more defensive tree, Will based
o Crystal Armor – Sustained. Increases Armor. Only with light armor
o Crystal Nova – Must have Crystal Armor. An area attack centered on the player. Ends the armor
o Deflect Missiles – A staple. % change to deflect. Can deflect spells on level 3
o Cocoon – Stuns the player, makes him invulnerable and increases life regeneration for a while.
It would have a few more trees, of course. Some combat ones, and some psi ones. I’m not really into auras but the shields could fit in nicely. Not sure if they would be enough to recover psi so maybe voracity too. I also like Mental Discipline but without the auras…
So, what do you guys think? I can program most of it, but I was just wondering if it was worth it
