Hotkey improvements

#1 Post by Canderel »

My wishlist for hotkeys would be:
  • Categorise them, so that you can have: offensive, defensive, other (And auto set each ability into the normal, ctrl, or shift hotkey sections)
  • Ability to set hotkeys to equipment/inventory activations (orb of scrying, rod of recall etc) - but do not automatically set these.
  • See all keys at once, why set it at 12. Make it a scrollable window, so that all are visible with keyboard shortcuts visible, I just have to scroll.

First off you can hot key items. Just hover over the item and press the hot key you want to set it as.

Second You can set hot keys yourself. There are even three sets of pre-set hot keys. You want a offensive set? then use the 1 through =, defensive set? Shift +1 through =, other set? ctrl + 1 through =. Not happy with those set ups? then change it any way you like.

Third you want to scroll through your skills? page up and page down do that. I'm not sure how 36 hot keys are going to fit on one screen though.

I think the idea was an auto-sorter, so you don't have to go through manually changing everything. At the moment it is annoying when you learn a new skill and you want it on your first page, you have to go through and manually bump everything along into a new order. Personally I try to limit my hotkeys assigned to make this easier.

I'd quite like scrolling myself, even if scrolling simply acted the same as page up/down. This is handy when playing mouse only. I'd also like a fourth page dedicated to activatable items - essentially the 'u'se menu, but accessible through the hotkeys panel.

Yes, that's what I do, or most used set etc. I am just saying that the default way always needs changing (for me). And if it has better defaults, maybe one does not need to change it that often.

36 hot keys doesn't fit. But initially, you only have 10 skills (3 on 1 - =, 3 on ctrl 1 - =, 4 on shift 1 - =) and currently displays only 1 set at a time, when it could show all assigned hotkeys, and none of the unassigned ones, and we can still use pg-up and pg-down, to just scrool the scrollable window (the way most windows work)...

Usually, when everything can't fit in the height assigned, one uses a scrollbar. (your browser should use one to view this thread)...
