Please keep our dungeons clean!
Since now most objects in the game are not sellable and useless to the character you play, it would be nice to have a command to destroy stuff on the ground. I'm sure limiting the number of objects managed by the game engine makes the game run faster!
Re: Please keep our dungeons clean!
Junk is a relative term. What's junk at level 50 is not junk at level 5.Gandolfo wrote:Id prefer to just not see the junk at all. Being impoverished and knowing that a dwarven steel dagger is worth a few gold pieces and not being able to sell it is very annoying. (Though carrying it around probably never was worth the 1 enc.)
I mean really, by this logic shouldn't we remove every ego that isn't greater and every artifact under level 40? Bill's Tree Trunk, what a piece of junk! Star and Moon aren't as good as Sting (or whatever it's being called now), lets get rid of them too!
It's a slippery slope.
To a level 5 rogue though that dwarven steel dagger may be a prize and just because you can't sell it doesn't mean it shouldn't drop at all.
Re: Please keep our dungeons clean!
Best solution is a "junk system" not unlike how it was done in Scallywag: In the Lair of the Medusa---only made much more robust. In a nutshell, "junk" essentially becomes reagents and thar be many different potential recipes to find/buy/or blindly figure via experimentation that can lead to some interesting gear and resources should all be duly wrangled.
Or I guess the Horadric Cube came first, but that's kinda different still from a mechanics standpoint.

I like it. The game either needs a way to destroy junk, or ignore it when autorunning (at least stuff that's already ID'd) - if there isn't already one I missed.
Getter77: Yeah, something like that could work too. Or an enchanter class that absorbs/uses the effects from magic items (ala the alchemist and gems).

Other than certain weapons along with in very few cases BODY armor, I see very few items that are not of use. Anyone care to explain this assumed worthlessness?

A command to destroy things would be lovely. It's better if you can crush a useless item the first time you look at it. Otherwise you end up stopping in your tracks every time you try to run past it because "OMG It's an Item! I must stop and look at it again, even though I've seen it five times!"
Re: Please keep our dungeons clean!
I would like to sacrifice junk on altar of some god(beneficial solution). Another solution (hostile) would be junk monsters - after some time junk turn into monster(monster mushroom , rust monster) or become residence of hostile spirits - animated armor and weapon.
PS BTW animated weapon/armor would make +encumbrance useful again(now they become mostly useless). You would better drag around this voratun greatsword, you surley wouldn't wont to fight it with char lvl 4

You could make like an Alchemist and extract gems from found items.
Gems still sell?

Yes gems sell.. and for a lot of money too. Alchemists must be filthy rich now

If I play a berserker and find a steel greatsword, it will replace my iron greatsword. After that, every plain iron greatsword is basically junk. Then I find an ego steel greatsword, and every plain steel greatsword is basically junk. At high level, you will eventually find that elemental voratun battleaxe of rage which will make all weapons junk. At this point, weapons will litter all dungeon floors and slow down the game a lot.Final Master wrote:Other than certain weapons along with in very few cases BODY armor, I see very few items that are not of use. Definitely most game items are now junk. (That is actually why I don't like this new sell system as much as I thought I would, but I'll give that time before I make a thread about it.)
Re: Please keep our dungeons clean!
This idea is current in Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. There the rationale is that the shopkeepers are members of a guild which have preferred suppliers (and YOU are not on their list!!!)
It makes for useless clutter, but reduces the amount of junk you carry around.
Not sure I like it in Stone Soup or here... also I am not sure I am against it! I am fairly neutral on this.

Another option, a Comedy one, Scrolls of Material/Item Genocide! When used, wipes from existence all that was and ever would be in a current world of the type in question. Could make for a weird achievement if you manage to destroy all that exists and still manage a win.

Goes on sale here and there but the demo and such probably gives enough gist, otherwise if it really comes down to it I can dig out my manual and look for more details.
Or....lift item interaction ides from MageGuild, as they go pretty robust on the lot of it. (Really, it has a lot of things going for it that could do well for ToME 4, class ideas, etc)

Maybe once the Sher'tul Fortress is expanded, all of the junk items can be put to use unlocking various parts of the Fortress. "We need 300 pounds of metal to rebuild this engine, and some wands, staves, and rings to throw into the furnace. Frequent repairs will be necessary, so be sure to keep the storage area well stocked." Or some such.
On the other hand, my favorite thing about the new shop system is not having any reason to carry all that stuff around. I'd rather have a cluttered dungeon than a cluttered inventory.

Re: Please keep our dungeons clean!
Agreed. I'm loving the liberty of ignoring most items, and don't find dungeon clutter to be much of a nuisance. The only "nuisance" thing is seeing unided daggers (blue egos and such) and I just *have* to pick it up and use the orb, even though I know I'll drop it straight to the ground cause I'm the wrong class :Pitastelikelove wrote: On the other hand, my favorite thing about the new shop system is not having any reason to carry all that stuff around.
