Click to shoot

#1 Post by Grey »

When wielding a bow or sling clicking on an enemy should shoot at it instead of moving towards it (or attempting to attack it in melee with your bow as can presently happen). Having to activate the basic shoot talent all the time makes the whole class type tedious to play. If you could click on them to fire directly it would make archery much more fun.

Seconded. The trick is to figure out how this would work. Would a simple check for an archery weapon and shoot talent suffice if you are clicking on a monster?

I whipped up a working patch for Grey's suggestion here. The talent message for Shoot needs to be rewritten so you don't see "Player shoots!" when you don't actually shoot, but I think it will be a good addition.

A similar idea for those of us who use a keyboard would be auto-targeting that can be toggled on and off. When turned on, it would automatically target the closest (or last targeted) hostile when performaning a talent that uses the single-target "hit" mode. That would turn most basic talent attacks into a single key press. Doomed has a talent that does something similar and its pretty nice to not have to target every time you use it.

As long as we're talking about functionality improvements, I miss the old 'perform last action' command from Tome 2 and Angband.

I think Shoot is actually the ability that's made me miss it the most and for keyboard users aiming once and then hitting 'n' a few times might be nice.

Indeed, I've missed that too. Would be great to have that back.

I'm also supportive of the main topic, but it can get a bit messy with non-hostile npcs, escorts and such. What about shift+left click to shoot?

There is already a check for hostility, so only hostile NPCs will be attacked by clicking on them. Otherwise you move towards them like you do now.
