Entering dungeons for min level
Since everything scales with the players level, is this a legit strategy? How would this work out? Could one still reach level 50 only entering dungeons set on min level?
Re: Entering dungeons for min level
I didn't use to do it before (I play insane exclusively), but I've found out that doing it on t2 and dreadfell really helps out with surviving that part of the game, and most of the times if you make it to the east you pretty much have the win guaranteed
So yeah, if you're using a really strong class I don't think it is needed, but anything else I would

T2 and dreadfell are like 90% of the places my characters die.
I'll try to use this tactic in my next game. Let's see if I can reach the east for a second time ever \o/

You totally can do this but I don't think it's necessary. I only do this in Lake Nur because I want the item vault as soon as possible. You also run the risk of losing an escort in Old Forest, Daikara, and Dreadfell if you try this, though the Maze and Sandworm Lair are be safe.
My wiki page, which contains a guide and resource compilation and class tier list.
Re: Entering dungeons for min level
Lake of Nur and Last Hope's crypt are ones I specifically set on minimum level if I want to complete them with minimal risk. I don't do it with Dreadfell as I think it can substantially lower the loot drop range?

Oh so Lake Nurs level is calculated separately, it's not enough to simply enter the old Forest, you have to get through to Lake Nur so it generates at a low level? Or do you even have to go down the stairs into the underwater level?bpat wrote:You totally can do this but I don't think it's necessary. Re: Entering dungeons for min level
I'm starting to feel like level setting is worthwhile to make dreadfell, daikara and old forest a lot easier in insane (alt maze also) but you risk losing a lot of escorts which is significant if you're a build that really needs a certain escort, like staff/mindstar or tinker builds, to work. It's still better than dying though, and the loot penalty isn't too bad in OF/daikara since your gear should be better anyway, but in dreadfell it can be somewhat notable so you could avoid doing it there (dreadfell isn't too hard anyway, just more likely to throw bad things at you due to the length)

Yeah it also drops the loot range.

Re: Entering dungeons for min level
Apologies for the noob question, but what do you mean by min level and level scaling?
Re: Entering dungeons for min level
All zones have a range of levels which they can generate enemies and loot for, and the game checks your level when you enter them to use for the generation.

Re: Entering dungeons for min level
Most dungeons have a minimum level at which the mobs will spawn, thus, if I enter a zone with a min level of 12 at level 6, the mobs will be set to their minimum level so that when I later enter the zone at level 15... they're still level 12. Otherwise, the mobs would scale to my level and be level 15 (on normal at least). So by "setting" the level lower, you can guarantee an easier zone at the cost of potentially worse loot.

Re: Entering dungeons for min level
Good information, and not particularly intuitive. I suspect I've lost a fair number of brave souls to this mechanic. XD
Re: Entering dungeons for min level
Not sure how you would lose characters to a mechanic which tries to make the zone more appropriate to your level?

Maybe he means that if he HAD utilized this mechanic he'd have easier dungeons and his characters would have survived.HousePet wrote:Not sure how you would lose characters to a mechanic which tries to make the zone more appropriate to your level?
Re: Entering dungeons for min level
I think he prefers deleveled areas instead of the current system. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, I like that tome is using a mix between those (min. level w/ player scaling).
