A CALL FOR STRATEGY GUIDES

#1 Post by ibanix »

Hello!

Extensive work on Guides Section of the ToME wiki has revealed that as a community we are missing some guides, and could really use players experienced in certain classes to share their wisdom!

If you'd like to write a guide, the best place to do is in the appropriate section of these forums, under the "Spoilers" and "Metaclass: (whatever)" section as appropriate. For double awesomeness, put the version of ToME you're writing for in the title, e.g: "Coolplayer's Mindslayer guide (1.4.6)". Guides will be linked here from the Wiki.

Guides we need:

* Doomed
* Anorithil
* Corruptor
* Alchemist
* Rogue
* Archer
* Oozemancer
* Stone Warden
* Any of the Embers classes

If you also know a quality guide, you are welcome to link it. Check the Guides Section of the ToME wiki to see if it' already there. Guides older than 1.2.x aren't useful, since a ton of changes happened in 1.3.x.

I've always shied away from making guides on account of not winning on Insane+ and general inexperience, having but 5 wins, only 1 of which is on nightmare.

Kind of wonder if some kind of automated dump of winners' talent data would be more useful than one person's overview of a class.

While builds are important, general strategy is probably better. Plus, an okay "I won normal/nightmare with this" guide is better than no guide.
A little bit of a starters guide written by yours truly here.

More useful probably. Those are the difficulties people who need guides are playing at.

^ this, exactly. If you're already winning at nightmare, you likely don't *need* a guide...

It also opens up the opportunity for more experienced people to chime in with "X is fine on normal but you really need to Y on insane".

My experience was the opposite. Winning on normal was easy, I needed help to understand how to win on nightmare and then insane.

I am currently working on a general strategy guide plus class guides for classes I've won with on Insane. Of the ones you listed, this includes Doomed (haven't won on Insane, but I got to the last fight), Corruptor, Gunslinger, Saw Butcher, and Psyshot. Some of the info may be a little dated but the fundamentals should remain the same.

Strategy guides for addon classes would be good too.
I've heard some people freak out when they see how many categories I've given some of my classes. :lol:

Which format of guide is better? My Paradox Mage guide or Psyshot guide?

I'm leaning towards Psyshot, but I think that both styles could be better formatted.

If you have any suggestions, I'll try and implement them in my next writeup (probably Gunslinger).
