I've just brought my first Stone Warden up to level 10, and I'm eying what to do with my category point. I'm thinking the best use is almost certainly the extra inscription slot since I'm a little class point starved right now anyways. I've gone with a heavy emphasis on control and durability, with Willpower > Magic=Strength, 1 point each in Eldritch Blow/Infusion, then heavier investment in Vines/Earthen Power/Dwarven Nature. I've seen a lot of praise for Eldritch Stone, and some for Stone and Earth, although those seem like more mage-style categories while I'm playing more a solid tanky build. (If I get far enough, I'd probably at least want to get 4 points in Stone Wall because that talent is bonkers, but that's a ways off I think.)
The one thing I've only really seen mentioned once, and that's in the Stone Warden Mage Guide (so very different than my build) is the Deeprock category. Since I need to invest a category point, I can't really experiment with it, and I can't look up the scaling on the Wiki since those talents don't have pages. So I'm wondering if it's generally seen as a weaker category. It sounds really cool, but I'm having a hard time seeing it as that useful. Does that line up with other users' experience?

You can expand talent trees to view the talents without investing a point in them.
As far as deeprock goes, its the same as any other tree for Stonewarden as to whether or not you should take it. You really should be focusing on either Mindpower OR Spellpower, dont try to go for both. Since it sounds like you went for Mindpower, deeprock wont help. If you went magic heavy Deeprock can be pretty damn powerful.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I'll level up a second and try out both builds.
As for previewing the talents, what I meant (and don't think I communicated) was that I can't preview how the talents scale with more points. That's because I'd need to unlock the category first, which in my experience you can't undo. Am I wrong on that?

Re: So, about Deeprock...
There's a mod called Talent Point Planner that lets you check scaling on everything. It basically gives you a max-level character and lets you spend the points all at once, then save the template to compare to as you level up. I got it on Steam workshop; you might have to dig around a bit if you're on the standalone version.
Re: So, about Deeprock...
You can undo picking a category as long as you stay in the talent screen - just right-click on the category name. If you assigned a point to a talent of the category, you have unassign that one first, but it still works.Lyoncet wrote:As for previewing the talents, what I meant (and don't think I communicated) was that I can't preview how the talents scale with more points. You are out of luck if you already left the talent screen and saved the changes, though.

Re: So, about Deeprock...
Ah, OK! I'd accidentally assigned a category point on my first (Cornac) character when I was trying to expand a talent pane, and thought it wouldn't let me undo it. That's very helpful, thanks!
Also thanks for letting me know about Talent Point Planner. That sounds like a big help.

Re: So, about Deeprock...
The catch is, you have to remove the category point before leaving the level-up menu or it's permanent. If you add a category point to something and want to remove it, just right-click the title of that talent category.
