having a hard choice
So I'm playing through on an Anorithil and I find a unique lamp that gives me 7% more darkness damage and such but more importantly it gives me another moonlight ray (giving me two really good beams) but then I find Umbraphage (15% darkness damage and light, resist dark 20%, etc) but you don't get the beam. I'm not sure which to use actually.

Re: having a hard choice
In my opinion the Umbraphage is pretty overpowered. It's a Tier 3 Artefact Lite that will likely last you throw to the end of the game, and you can find it pretty early. Specifically it is strongest when you fight in areas where demons have more of a presence, or big areas with lots of darkness to absorb.
I don't know how good your other lamp is, but regardless I suggest keeping the Umbraphage even if you decide to not use it.

Its amazing what the mind can come up with, but it shows talent to make something of it. - Davion Fuxa

Re: having a hard choice
Plus, the Umbraphage lets you fire cones of darkness if memory serves, to make up for the loss of that second beam. And the icing on the cake is, contrary to that extra moonlight ray you get from your previous lamp, this one doesn't put your other items' activable talents on cooldown (if you have any.) So yes, the Umbraphage.looks clearly better.
Re: having a hard choice
Umbraphage is amazing. Hands down my favorite light source. Not only is it a good light, has good utility, but also has a really "interesting" mechanic with it as well.
Re: having a hard choice
So question, how does the Umbraphage get filled? Just when I take dark damage? When I use dark spells?
Re: having a hard choice
The description is misleading/incorrect.
It recharges its power like any item that uses power.
The additional effect is that wherever you step will become permanently lit (like a sun infusion, it can also be darkened again by some spells).
Lites are usually relatively unimpressive compared to other gear and therefore Umbraphage will probably be the best you can find.

Awesome. Thanks for the help guys. I'm trying to get this one up to the point where it gets really good. Not easy going only having 2 real damage spells currently.
Re: having a hard choice
why does it seem umbraphage has a longer radius sometimes? and a shorter one other?
*nevermind, I think I figured it out. It absorbed each step of darkness and makes it more powerful.
*edit. I guess not. Not sure why it seems to have a larger radius sometimes.

Re: having a hard choice
The hardest part about this one is that the shops are 100% completely useless. First pass through, not a single yellow. I have no shield runes outside of my starting one...
Re: having a hard choice
It lights areas as you go along, if a square is lit then you only need to be within vision radius and not light radius to see it (you can check those values in the character sheet).

Re: having a hard choice
Right, but I'm trying to figure out what makes it change power and radius size. Sometimes it's small, about 4 radius and hits for about 280, other times it's radius 8 or 9 and hits for 500+
Re: having a hard choice
Ah it does indeed get some power up, but you're better off using it every time it's off cooldown for maximum DPT.
If I'm reading the code correctly it takes 200 unlit tiles to fully power up.

Looks like a bug in the code:Somehow I don't think a max charge is supposed to give you +6 damage.
Code: Select all
local dam = (15 + who:combatMindpower()) * 4+math.floor(self.charge/50)
Addons: Arcane Blade Tweaks, Fallen Race, Monk Class, Weapons Pack
Currently working on Elementals. It's a big project, so any help would be appreciated.

Re: having a hard choice
Sigh... down to my last life on this Anorithil. I'm lv 31 and even using Shadow Armor and just out of nowhere I'll get one shot, 400 point shields, 640 health gone. This last one was in Briah's sandcastle. A giant worm just rushed into me and I got hit for 625 damage..... literally from offscreen. I just stepped forward, watched this worm rush me and I die.
