I'm having some problems most of the time that I play ToME, usually my problem is that the server doesn't know what game I'm playing when I mouse over my name in chat, but I usually stay validated anyway.
It's stressful to think that any time that I reload the game and get an offline profile message just after loading, I might've been invalidated, and one time I actually was without the bad game version message, with no addons; thankfully though I didn't save after that and I was in the sher'tul fortress, where I checked the item vault which said I wasn't validated, so I killed tome in task manager and reloaded and I was validated again without red text appearing upon loading.
Would it be much trouble to implement a way to ask the server to recognize what game you're playing and what character you're playing, and to then check to see if you're validated? I'm thinking this would only be effective if this was put on a higher priority than updating people's characters automatically as the server already does now and then.
I understand that you can mouse over people's names in chat, and that you can click a person's name in the combat log's chat log tab then hit "show infos" to see if they're validated, but from what I can tell, it only shows what the server already knew about the character or account instead of updating their information.
Also, when the server does recognize that I'm playing ToME, it never actually says (validated), it the best I ever see is (validate) for some reason when I mouse over my name in chat; I've actually never seen (validated) next to the tooltip for my name in chat, but I've seen it next to other people's names, and I've been able to use the item vault even if it just says (validate).
Usually when I mouse over my name in chat while I'm playing vanilla ToME 1.1.3 downloaded straight from te4.org, it says
Playing: unknown
Game: unknown(not validated)
Even when the game says that, I can sometimes put things into the item vault, but only if I haven't been somehow invalidated.
Force game recognition and validation check?

For some reason you have to wait for the news to fully load on the main menu screen for it to attempt proper validation. When you don't you get the no profile active message.
Also the server has been a bit stressed lately.
I don't think you can invalidate a character by playing it without the profile connected though.
