Saves compatible?
Are the 1.05 saves compatible with the new 1.06 version?
Re: Saves compatible?
They're supposed to be, but when I tried to load my last 1.0.5 char I got dumped in the character creation menu instead. So YMMV.
Ghoul never existed, this never happened!

I don't believe they are; All my characters have vanished post-patch. Granted, I'm not sure whether that was because I finally registered/created an account before patching or because of the patch.

Use the "show incompatible" checkbox
[tome] joylove: You can't just release an expansion like one would release a Kraken XD

Re: Saves compatible?
So with steam's automatic game updating, and ToME's tendency for incompatible saves between versions, will that create any issues in the future, or is that being designed around?

Thanks darkgod! I did this and it worked like a charm, at the very least between 1.06 and 1.10.darkgod wrote:Use the "show incompatible" checkbox

Re: Saves compatible?
The big change in save file compatibility came between 1.0.4 and 1.0.5.
As a general guideline, when looking at the release notes:
Most changes to way talents work should take affect as soon as you load in the new game version.
Changes to zones and objects that are persistent throughout the game (like artifacts, dungeon levels, npcs, etc.) will not take affect if they were already created in the current game, before upgrading to a new version.
Changes to quests (generally won't update), dialogs (generally will update), and other things are more gray.
There are exceptions, of course.

Re: Saves compatible?
There's some pretty serious wierdness with damage types - import a char from 1.05 and expect a LOT of items to be dealing/resisting hybrid or damage + status types.
