So, I'm having a GREAT ToME game... no deaths and I've finished the game. I just need to clean up the Orc Pride and I'm done. I'm playing an Alchemist with "Advanced Golemancy/Gem Golem". As you know this skill allows me to insert gems into the golem. Unfortunately I inserted "Goedalath Rock", an artifact gem with nasty negative effects. I incorrectly assumed that by inserting the gem into the golem, I was installing it for it's amazing positive features. (If you "Imbue" the gem, you gain the positive effects.)
Unfortunately one of it's negative effects is -50% regeneration. I cannot remove the gem because the golem has to be at 100% health to "refit" the golem. Every time the golem dies I respawn/refit it, but it's health is slighty (just a few hit points) below maximum and I am unable to remove the gem. I have tried giving the golem all kinds of hp regeneration items, but I can't get it high enough to reach positive hit points.
I keep playing the game, but the golem eventually dies. I've finally stopped respawning the golem.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area.

Re: Golem Gem Problem
It could have been moved to the new "Dumb Questions" thread, but that's largely of no value. It can be moved if it needs to.
As for the Golem... Have you tried "Supercharging" it? It boosts regeneration quite a bit...
I think this sort of problem is why some people are asking for a separate option that lets you change the golem's equipment, without healing it. It'd help with matters like this.

Re: Golem Gem Problem
In the past, I've been able to take control of the golem and mess with its equipment using the 'e' menu. Has that been taken out?
Re: Golem Gem Problem
There doesn't seem to be an 'E' setting that allows you to change items, or if there is I can't seem to find it. Good suggestion though.
Any more ideas?

Re: Golem Gem Problem
Do file a bug report, being unable to replace a rock BECAUSE of that rock realy sounds like unintended behavior.
Self-fix: try taking control of your golem and hitting 'i' for Inventory, not 'E', to swap around golem gear.
Alternative: if you haven't saved yet, try crashing the game. You'll lose whatever you've done since your last save, including the mistake with the rock.

Re: Golem Gem Problem
For DarkGod's sake, don't do anything drastic! There should be no problem with taking control of the golem and then interacting with its inventory almost exactly as you would with your alchemist him or herself's inventory. Is this not a completely normal thing to do? I don't know where I'd be without using my golem as a pack mule...
Re: Golem Gem Problem
snoop,
It's not that simple. Gems can only be taken out/replaced when the golem is at 100% health. Due to the -50% healing rate it was impossible to get the golem to 100% health.
Anyway, I did manage to solve the problem, although I'm not sure exactly how I did it. I believe I used some class points to improve the golem's natural regeneration which eventually let the golem reach 100%. It may have been "Advanced Golemancy/Runic Golem", which increase the golem's regeneration.
Hopefully this will help some other foolish player.
Thanks for all the advice.

Re: Golem Gem Problem
My mistake... forgot you can't treat the gems as regular equip.

doh; that's what I meant...Doctornull wrote:Self-fix: try taking control of your golem and hitting 'i' for Inventory, not 'E', to swap around golem gear.
Truth is, I played something like 3 or for (very bad) alchemists before I managed to find out that you can change his equipment some way that *doesn't* involve taking control.
