Friendly challenge

#1 Post by daftigod »

Hey here's a quick and painful gameplay challenge for anyone interested:

The Shady Summonless Summoner
Start a new Cornac Summoner in the Arena
Pick any arena gift you want
Remove any default class points so the player has no summon skills whatsoever
Do not put any points into any summoning skills (you will have alot of unused class points for awhile)
Put the cat point in mindstar mastery
See how far you can get!

My best so far is the 7th wave, you guys should easily be able to best that :)

Haha, nice. My previous four characters (from 5 weeks ago now) are actually summonless Cornac Summoners too (in the main campaign). I think they're actually playable, and the Arena might be doable as well--good challenge, daftigod!

I tend to rush through the early game, so all my summonless summoners heedlessly rushed into battles with rares or ambushes and died (at levels 6, 7, 15, and 17). A little more caution and actually shopping and updating inscriptions could get the characters to level 20, at which point they'll start rolling (relatively speaking).

Well, I was on wave 10 doing just fine at full health when I suddenly died to a white crystal I couldn't even see doing 180 damage at once insta-gibing me...

Ok made it to wave 14, and the gladiators were surprisingly pushovers if you keep one of them in the way of the other. They can be nasty with both of them rushing!

I also realized that combat techniques is based on dexterity instead of strength, so there goes my original plan for a build. Wil->Con/Dex it is! I think you're right tiger, with the mindstar techniques and some careful planning this little guy might be a contender!

edit - the best part of this challenge is the quickness of it. No real tough upgrade choices, chars die quickly without feeling too invested, can choose "restart same character" to quickly reset, etc. It's coffee-break mode. :)

I assume this challange is on the 60 wave mode?
I just reached wave 21 with phase boots where I got massacred by those spell-lobbing crystals. I went max Will, followed by dex and a little con. Perhaps it's better to just let go of dex, since accuracy isn't bad anyway. (and two of the skills in that unlockable skill tree add accuracy)
btw, is it possible that since it causes the monsters damage themselves, kills made by leaves tide don't grant experience?

Combat Techniques is based on the higher of str or dex. Since Mindstar accuracy is based on wil instead of dex, this makes dex essentially useless.
<Ferret> The Spellblaze was like a nuclear disaster apparently: ammo became the "real" currency.
