alemist staff damage and channel staff

#1 Post by tomeaddict-T4 »

Hi all,

I'm curious about the channel staff damage and staff mastery.

Specifically, staff mastery increases the damage "done with staffs" so I'm presuming that this augmented damage is the figure used to calculate "staff damage" from the channel staff description.

This makes me think the damage is multiplicative, even though staff mastery seems to be describing the damage done when hitting people with the staff.

Is this how it all works?

Yes, basically. Staff mastery increases the damage done by your staff (the number that shows up in the character sheet), Channel staff then multiplies that number by its percentage. Both Staff Mastery and Channel Staff boost the damage of Channel Staff, though in most cases I have found Staff Mastery to be a more efficient use of points.

Channel Staff applies its multiplier to the damage you would do if you walked up and hit them with a melee attack, it just avoids all that nonsense about "walking up" and accuracy rolls and such. This means that Channel Staff damage completely ignores spellpower, and increases with physical power (and Magic, because most staves do damage based on magic), as well as applying the Staff Mastery bonus.
