block TOME from accessing the internet?

#1 Post by nodescriptor »

(Sorry if this is something really obvious, but I've looked through all the in game options I can find, searched this forum and the wiki and can't find anything. If this has already been asked/answered, links would be appreciated!)

I'd like to try this game out, but it keeps crashing my network. I've tried blocking it with my firewall, but I get in-game messages saying that it has connected.

Short of keeping my computer offline when I want to play, is there any way I can completely block this program from accessing the internet?

Tome uses a simple tp connection and really shouldn't be able to crash your network. It's likely there's something else going on with your system.

I don't know what kind of set up you have but on my Windows XP machine I'd dump my IP address, try rebooting my cable modem and router, and I'd make sure that Tome wasn't being flagged by any Anti-Virus software or my Firewall.

Maybe someone with more networking experience would have some better advice for you though.

If you need to you can edit the file called profile_thread.lua or something like that (sorry not at my desk) and edit the text that says te4.org (there are 2) to well anything localhost should work.

Yup. Just about anything will crash it. Unfortunately it's my roommate's and I'm not allowed to mess with it, which is why I'm hoping for a solution on my comp and why I'm not trying to troubleshoot the network.

Thanks though!

Not a bad idea though considering the performance hit the game takes when it's trying to reconnect to the server when it's down/rejecting connections/not sure what it's doing.

Better surely to report such slowdowns as a bug and encourage DG to fix them? He's rather good at that sort of thing.

I suppose an option for "offline mode" would be handy for the game in general though.

Honestly waiting for the current server re-write at this point to see how that pans out.
