Understanding the Wiki

#1 Post by Chris Woods »

Hey all,

I'm slowly getting deeper into learning the mechanics of ToME, so I've been reading a lot on talents/spells that are on the wiki. I know some of the forumlas may be out of date, but the actual format is what confuses me.

Example:
The Higher ability "Gift of ht Highborn" says:
"Heal for (5 + Wil[50]) health per turn."

What does Wil[50] mean? It's not any mathematical notation I'm familiar with... 50% of Wil? Wil times the 1x1 matrix [50]? The 51st entry in the Wil array?

Forgive the jokes, but can anyone tell me what that notation is supposed to mean?

I should add this to "understanding the talent notation" sometime. It is 50% of Willpower, so the value is 36 at 72 Willpower, for example. The square brackets are just a way of nesting them, you can see nesting like:

Reshape Weapon: 1 cooldown
Improves any weapon by (3 + [1 + Wil(1)] * 2.08 * talent) rescaled accuracy and physical power.

I did the bracket nesting like ([([([])])]) because I found it easier to follow than (((((()))))).
Some of my tools for helping make talents:
Melee Talent Creator
Annotated Talent Code (incomplete)

Never thought I would write a sentence like this but:
I do like your brackets.

Silly things aside, here is a link to the wiki page they are talking about.
