What's Next!!
Finally, after what seems like a thousand tries I have beat the Trollshaws and Amund Sol
In what order should I do these
The Old Forest

Sandworm Layer

Re: What's Next!!
If you are a class that is mostly ranged based, then probably Old Forest is your next best bet, probably followed by Carn Dum.
If you are a melee class that doesn't use shields, then The Maze may be your next best scenario.
If you are a more fragile class like cursed/ravanger/rogue then MAYBE the sand worm layer, if you have lots of magic mapping/phase door.
Tol Falas should always be last.

Re: What's Next!!
I would generally say the Old Forest should be next for all classes. You almost certainly need to level up some more, and of the boss monsters, the one in the Old Forest is probably the least difficult for a first-timer to defeat (no spoilers, so I won't detail why). The one caveat: make sure, whichever one you go in the first time, that you stock up on healing (or GH is even better) potions. If you know the way to a special town go there, if not, there is a general town to the far southeast.
Re: What's Next!!
Definitely Old Forest next. In fact, I would do the Old Forest before Amon Sul. The OF is far less dangerous most of the time. (Though you should still exercise prudence.)
After that, it would depend on your class.

Re: What's Next!!
Agree that melee classes might not want to do old forest next for the sole reason of the honey trees. At lower levels, they can be very tough - especially the vaults with the honey trees.
Even though you might be taking very low damage on a single bee / hornet hit, you still get poisoned, and when you are swarmed you need to port away pretty quickly.

Re: What's Next!!
The snakes are pretty bad too.... fast, high damage and hard to hit.

Re: What's Next!!
I would say that a rogue-class should definitely do the maze next. After that perhaps the sandworm lair if you have patience* and lots of scrolls of magic mapping and phase door. Only then would I do OF and Carn Dum, the snake pits are just too deadly for a rogue, in my opinion.

Re: What's Next!!
Have you seen an H yet? If you survived it, you have a chance. If you have Track from Field Control or if you have Sense from a quest use those OFTEN on level 7. Minor spoiler: Boss monsters are able to track you down so don't be afraid you can't find him again if you phase door. Also, there is a Maze exit on that level the same place as the down stairs on the other Maze levels.I am Clevel 12 Dwarf Beserker and I have just entered the maze lvl 5 - I have no idea what is in front of me

Re: What's Next!!
Another reminder, but this one less spoily and more required tactics from here on out: don't get stunned, particularly by bosses, if you can possibly help it. A warrior can't avoid close combat, but there might be other ways to avoid the problem...Taxorgian wrote:Have you seen an H yet? If you survived it, you have a chance. Re: What's Next!!
Well - I survived the H's with ease - then got wiped out by the Elementals in Bree - they are mean critters and I have no idea how to beat them
Thanks for all of your helpful hints

Re: What's Next!!
Poke your head around a corner (see if you can get them to see you) and then duck back, two spaces so they can't zap you from afar and then wait:
When you can see them at the corner in this situation they can't see you and at that point you can Rush them to get your free attack and then attempt to stun them. If you have long range attacks like an archer or mage you can start zapping them. At around level 12-15 depending on your build you should be able to two shot the enemies in Bree so this method should work as long as you take it slow and don't get a ton of them following you at once. This method is great for other distance attackers against melee as well.

Re: What's Next!!
I misspoke, you can't rush from that distance.
If you want to rush you'll have to back up more. I would just wait for him to come around the corner and stun or use death dance.

Re: What's Next!!
In retrospect, I goofed. I was wearing a long sword so no Stun or Death Dance
Lesson learned
Thanks for the ideas - peeking around the corner sounds like fun lol
