I hate self targeting!

#1 Post by Gwai »

A typo when I am tired and I lost my best character (so close to having completed the starting quest!)

Is there any reason that offensive abilities can target oneself? I doubt it's even possible to shoot a steady shot at oneself and it is a really frustrating way to die. I don't do tricks to cheat death, but man if I had known that was coming, I wouldn't have felt bad cheating to avoid that one!

Oh yes, that's the character that had finally almost finished the apprentice mage's quest too.

It would be difficult to shoot yourself with full force with a bow and arrow yes, but is still is possible to shoot yourself yes

that said, not sure why dg has it in like this :P

If self targeting effectively shot yourself in the foot -- painful but not 100 damage -- it wouldn't be quite such a slap in the face.

Also, I really doubt that someone with the equivalent of almost 30 dex would shoot themselves by accident with a bow!

I lost a very promising mage in the sandworm lair to a self-manathrust.

Eww :<

I'll add a prompt I think, because sometimes you do want to target yourself.

maybe add a field/tag to each spell listing it as Offensive/neutral/defensive, and only have neutral spells with a prompt.

the only really neutral spell I can think of is dispel magic atm though.

ball spells could have a prompt though too, hmmm.

I hope the prompt isn't for every spell cast. That could get really tedious. I do like the idea of different types of spells having different lists of possible targets. You would never want to cast a single target damage spell on yourself.

I think the prompt would only be when you target yourself.

Hum no you are supposed to be careful with area spells, but yes single target spells will prompt you if you self target

Just had an amusing self-targeting mishap (not fatal, luckily). I finally finished the mage quest with my fighter, and took a detour to try out the mage. Died with the first mage, so went back to the fighter who was on L1 of the Maze. I resized the window to make it bigger, and noticed my @ was surrounded by thieves (blue p). I shield-bashed, and got the message that I was stunned. Turns out the p's were an graphical artifact of screen resizing and not actual monsters- there were p's everywhere there was supposed to be visible floor. The only thing I had to bash was myself! Save &exit and reloading the game removed all the p's...
