Orcs Campaign: How, When , Why, What! [important]

Note that right now is a really good time to get on Kickstarter, due to the Blockbuster effect from the Torment campaign.
Re: Orcs Campaign: How, When , Why, What! [important]
Well it's not ready and anyway it will likely be indiegogo rather than kickstarter since I do not have the "honor" of being an USA citizen

Ah, hrm, shame :-/ IndieGoGo isn't much use from what I heard from Thomas Biskup. If it's a choice of that or go it alone then maybe you should just go it alone.

Stupid kickstarter ..

Wait, then how did Thomas Biskup get on kickstarter for ADOM? From what I remember of the Adom postcard quest, he wasn't living in the USA either?
EDIT: (In response to the below post) Whoops. Guess I just keep hearing 'kickstarter' when folks talked about his campaign. My information was wrong I guess, since his site mentions indiegogo too. DERP me.

It would help if Biskup had already finished with his extensive write up of experiences with his IGG campaign---but who knows. Otherwise in the interim, I still think getting on Gamersgate would be a thing to strive for, since they too have a sophisticated/Indie-friendly operation going AND tend to see much of their action from Europe...which would be relevant eyes for an IGG bid.

Well I for one am super flipping pumped about steampunk orcs, giants, and everything else planned. The hints at other upcoming campaigns are also really exciting. I can't help but think of how these could all be integrated into the main campaign- maybe one could travel to these areas and experience events before the future campaigns? Bring characters over between campaigns? Play a steampunk orc in Maj'eyal? Have to beat the game to unlock some special, shorter campaigns? Have your winning(non-sacrificed) character from a previous game be a boss you have to fight as an Orc or Troll? There are all sorts of possibilities.
As far as funding, however Darkgod decides to move forward I'll support ToME.

Fighting a boss of yourself is already very possible. Winning the arena results in your arena becoming the champion for the next arena run, which means each arena winner must manage to defeat the previous one. Mechanics already exist to create an enemy that reflects our previous characters. I wouldn't be surprised if we find character references somewhere, though how to make it read specific characters would be iffy. Perhaps just pull a random surviving winner?Grillkick wrote:Well I for one am super flipping pumped about steampunk orcs, giants, and everything else planned. That's one way to do it. Depending on the story, we could also have an end game ally be one of our previous winners instead of an NPC(Think of a certain person who can join the player against the sorcerers now). That would be really cool.

I... I'm not sure how I feel?
Once upon a time I donated, and I considered exactly what a proper donation was... I thought about how much time over the years I'd played, and decided I'd always played and enjoyed Tome like a right proper video game. So, I paid as if it were a triple A released game, and considered myself to have "bought" a copy of Tome.
That's... not going to happen again, with all due respect. Fairly though- I've definitely enjoyed Tome many times over and my interest in it waxes and wanes, now for me it's a good wine I break out of the depths now and again.
The orc campaign I'd be willing to consider as DLC, or expansion pack... but kickstarter or indiegogo, with tiered rewards...
That, in a sense feels punitive for donating >50$ once upon a time. Not to say that your effort is not worth it again, DG. Your influence has shaped Tome into a fantastic game. I just can't imagine ANY game where I'd pay >50$ once, and then return again and pay 50$ for an expansion on the same engine. 5 or 10 for orcs, sure. I'll get sincere mixed feelings for supporting "too early" if I missed out on some tiered reward though. *sigh*
I imagine my case is a bit out of the ordinary though. I figured my .02$ present a differing viewpoint for anyone that donated heavy and early, and looked at it more as a purchase for your services than a donation.

It would be nice if existing donations could be factored into reward levels. How easy that is to do I don't know though...

A thought occurs. Does Kickstarter allow an independent developing GROUP to apply? And if a member of your development staff (Edge, Tiger eye, etc, etc.) was a citizen of the US/UK, could you apply as a group, piggybacking in on there citizenship? Would just one member of the devstaff be enough to qualify? And are any of the dev's even citizens of the US/UK?darkgod wrote:Well it's not ready and anyway it will likely be indiegogo rather than kickstarter since I do not have the "honor" of being an USA citizen

I know of other people that have done that on Kickstarter. But obviously it's putting a lot of faith and responsibility on someone, and asking a lot too in case of potential tax problems.
