I think the old one deserves all the criticism it got - it really was just archer skills with rogue skills bolted on and some random temporal spells. Whereas the new one pretty much has 0 in common with their previous incarnation beyond the theme, what with getting all their shared technique trees replaced. Think the number of class skills that weren't replaced or overhauled can be counted on one hand.
Fair enough. My old 1.0.4 TW hasn't gotten around to dying yet, so I haven't started a new one.

(shrug) Meh, I've had enough characters of so-called "steamroller" classes get summarily curbstomped out from under me that I tend to be leery of such claims nowadays.

My spells heal them. My melee skills heal them. My sustains heal them. My shield heals them. Being attacked by them heals them. ARARAHGRHAEGH."
See, that's the precise point at which I would have scrapped the character, deleted the savefile with prejudice, and never touched the class again.

It is bad design. They didn't put in a heal obsessed mind/physical/fire affinity horror to oppose solipsists or a nature/acid affinity horror to oppose oozemancers or a blight affinity horror to oppose corruptors. There aren't any absurd affinity monsters except the two that only wreck sun paladins.

I also never really got Mindslayers, hand on to about level 30ish, although interesting at a glance it feels sort of incomplete to me, kind of like something is missing to get my interest. Bulwark seems pretty dull, but I've never really played around with block a lot, it might turn out i actually enjoy such game play.
I'm, with Pizdabol, the one class I really can't stand is alchemist. I'm happy to run almost every other class, and have won on lots of them.

I also vote though for Doomed - I love the idea, I enjoy starting them, but then it all seems to go terribly wrong at T2 dungeon level.

I've played and won with TW (not the new version though) and Archers (I love slingers especially). I don't see archers as inferior TWs, but as different altogether.

My faves? Solipsists, Oozemancers, Mindslayers - something about mindstars always floats my boat. :-)

I can't even remember the last time I saw one of those. Either they're a lot rarer than radiant horrors or they're completely unmemorable, which means they aren't feeding off an element I use. None of the standard five make sense. If it's blight it would screw the reaver and also be a horrible design decision. If it's mind people would build solipsists differently. If it were both poison and acid it would screw oozemancers. None of that makes the affinity on the radiant/luminous horrors not horrible design.

Not saying that Radiant/Luminous Horrors are bad for Sun Paladins (although Wintertide sure sorts them out nicely), but Worm That Walks is disappointed you forgot about hit 50% blight affinity.
Another affinity monster is Shivgoroth with 70% cold affinity.

Its really just a case of not relying entirely on one damage type. Which shouldn't be too hard for a Sun Paladin as they can use standard weapons, unlike casters.

I typically can kill Luminous Horrors on Sun Paladin if I turn off my light damage sustains. They are annoying to kill, but definitely doable. It might be another story if you get a nasty randboss, but you'd just need to skip that.

Ah, just 50% and 70%. That's not absurd. You deal more damage than they heal if you can penetrate their resistance. I'm pretty sure the the Luminous and Radiant have 100%. At any resistance penetration less than 100% they heal more damage than they take.

Paladins have the issue that their defense and offense comes from the same light damage dealing sustains.

It is possible to turn off sustains unless the horror is a rare. Rare horrors usually have too much offense.

radiant and luminous.
even if you are not a sunpal, they can still constantly rotate shield and regen.
if you don't do enough damage in general then they are immortal. forget the type.

My worst classes are rogue and summoner. Something about the play styles just doesn't click for me.

Rogue starts unlocked and hence is implied to be easy enough for new players to start with, but after playing long enough to unlock every class and race and win a couple of times, I can't make a rogue who is useful in any way.

Summoners are rumoured to be amazing, but when I try to play one I find myself having to cast flamespitters at every intersection and running like a fraidy cat so I don't get overrun by enemies tougher than my minions.
