Yeah, the general idea for melee against long range is to get them one on one and to make them come to where you can attack them as they attack you. If you have sense or enemy detection it's a little easier to avoid attacks from multiple directions. Good luck on the next go round!

Maybe this is a bit too spoily, but there's a neat place in Bree to face the tempest demons, in the bordering trees surrounding the houses there's a diagonal gap where you can lure them one by one, it's in the southern side.
