lim (# of cold drakes) -> +inf

Isnt it too much?

Freeze do not sum, so it's not much worse than 1 ;)

Each kind of drake can summon either one more of itself or 3 more of the next lower rank

lets talk with numbers

3 x Freeze each doing 60 = 180
( not sure about freeze chance lets say 30% ) at 3 strikes its 0.3 + 0.7*0.3 + 0.7*0.7*0.3 = 65.7 % chance to be frozen

then lets say they decied to use breathing weapon each doing around 90 damage
4 x Breath each doing 90 = 360
(540 damage up to now) my mage in beta 10b had around 500 hp at lvl 20 so Carn Dum is now either for lucky guys or is it made low-mid lvl now?

and remember that there is still 2 turns of freeze...

It has always been low-mid :)

But yes I suppose the summons could be a tad harsh .. I'll think about it :)

naah in beta 10b it was my starting zone : D (lvls 1 to 10 with no problems) thats why im so :shock: now ; )

if i can suggest make them able to summon only lower lvl; Ice wyrms - only Cold Drakes, Cold Drakes - only hatchling this way it will looks like hierarchy in dragons society

*cough* Pls don't tell me that this was implemented due to my suggestion, because then I really have to go undercover if ppl start running into the first Dreadlords. :roll: *whistles innocently*

But concerning this problem:
My original proposal included a "downward"-hierarchy in summon as Graziel suggested here too. But that wasn't for the problem Graziel encounter - it was more to prevent a neverending fight than the risk of massive 1round-dmg.
Honestly, if you play a mage and even after a couple of turns (at least four) in which the wyrm summon each other you're still in LoS of all four wyrm... you're doing something terribly wrong. Take is as an early educative lession that lets you survive later. This way you don't have to replay so much as when your char gets fried in the Orc Prides... not even mentioning the Master. ^^

Anyone got a fighter through Carn Dum? The drakes summon hordes of drakelings as blockers, and then proceed to breathe on me, over them. Meanwhile every blow I strike is doing me damage...

All I can say is, thank goodness monsters vanish after a while. Went down two levels, just barely made it, and then managed to escape back up. I'm gonna skip this dungeon, I'm only level 17. Maybe come back after I've done Moria.

My fighter ran into the "neverending horde of cold drakes and their babies" as well, and retreated to the Elven Ruins. I'll send him back up tonight, a level or two higher and with Ringil instead of a mithril waraxe (he has points in swords, not axes, but the mithril waraxe was a lucky find that had been doing more damage than the steel swords he'd been finding...).

Maybe one day he'll even be able to wear that mithril plate armor that he found in the Old Forest and has been carrying around ever since.

I really don't think a fighter/melee character will be capable of completing carn dum realistically anymore. I went in with my level 18/19 dwarf fighter and was rushing around the levels to survive. Ice Wryms were not ran into, but dozens of Cold Drakes were. I am definitively in favor of them only able to summon lesser dragons than themselves.

And... what in the HELL is with all the drakes and giants now having a sheath. It's cool that that is what the hatch lings got, but EVERY giant now has a sheath?

Oh... and how is the number of dragons summoned determined? One Cold Drake summoned at least 10 hatchlings in one turn and then repeated that feat several more times. And why did I run into more fire drakes than cold drakes in carn dum? Isn't it supposed to be the cold place?

Ah yes hatchlings comes in pack and they summon many so it's actaully many .. packs.

I managed to get a skeleton shadowblade through carn dum without too much trouble. The drakes can be an issue but as long as you stick to corners and tunnels theyre very doable. Took out the master too and then died to an unlucky freeze from some multihued hatchlings (these things are NOT to be underestimated!) on the way out of tol falas.

The Paths of the YoureDeadNow were waaaay scarier than carn dum :shock:

I have had modest success with the ironman strategy -- as soon as you see the stairs get the @#$%^ off the level. A REALLY lucky fighter might be able to clear the levels out but nothing else could. The skeleton mages are instant death.
