I've encountered the troll thunderer on level 1 of the Troll Shaws numerous times. Enough in fact that my new strategy with characters is to leave the Troll Shaws and find a safer place to level, assuming I don't hit the merchant quest at level 1 that is (in which case I just restart).

The first thing i noticed in beta 5 is the change that i now only have 1 talent point to spend per level instead of 2.
I now have 1 skill point, but as an archer i cannot really spend it anywhere useful. I put 1 point in Weapon Combat skill but i cannot put another point in there on lvl 2 as i have to be lvl 3.
The only option left for an archer to choose is Precise Strikes which doesnt feel viable for an archer. :(

So it feels like my char can only advance about half speed now.

There is a lot of room in the left panel, why not put there all current buffs and debuffs? Like Diseases, Poison, Regeneration, etc?

Also i wouldnt mind a third bar with how much i carry compared to my max carrying capacity (before i get burdened)

It's even more important for archers now to be skeletons. You can unlock the skeleton race by being lucky (!!) while dying to one of them. Two of the skeleton abilities, which are skills, are REALLY useful for archers and fighters, though skeletons level slower. With the faster levelling in beta5, it's not a problem! I died stupidly in Moria because I didn't realize that a volley of arrows could hit me!

I have to correct my previous statement about leveling half speed because of skills. Now i can wear massive armour because i had to spend my points somewhere.

p.s. I am so terrified of the minotaur and 2 tiles light radius that i have taken hightened senses to be able to see him from further away. I am hoping to be able to target him earlier than with my normal 2 tiles sight radius.

Hmm, i kinda lost my fun in playing/(testing). I got owned as a lvl 13 hunter by the Minotaur. I rounded a corner, got stunned and he hit me twice for 150 and i was dead. The balance seems totally off as any other mob in the Maze is so easy.

So the fix would be to make all other monsters boss-level hard ?;)

Anyway, while stun is a nasty thing, it is still entirely possible to avoid it, melee classes have talents/armour to reduce/prevent stuns (or simply pure pnhysical resistance to avoid them), others have heightened sense, scrolls of ennemies detection, ...
Yes the minotaur can be a true bastard, but then nothing forces you to face it either if you dont think your character can handle him

Tbh i was seeking him out as i thought i was prepared. I had not found detect monster yet.
I had teleport and phase door ready. As a player who has finished Nethack 3 times as a pacifist i think i can say that i played careful.
