Do you usually have music on while playing this game?

I think the game's music is pretty great, so I stick with it. I have to shut it off for some areas, because the music just clashes too much with my experience... first to mind is Last Hope. I would so appreciate an addon to set the music for each area. Even a paid or donator one!

Well, this is kind of my area of expertise, as I have maintained the OldRPG Music Mod for ... ages at this point. What you are describing doesn't seem... impossible. Actually it's certainly possible.
The question I suppose is, how many hoops would you want to jump through? For instance, let's say I make an add-on that exposes a new tab in the options. In that tab, is every possible zone, with a dropdown box next to them.
The dropdown shows all the default music, plus any custom OGGs you've added to the addons data folder. You can select any of your custom OGGs from the drop down for any zone, and that saves between sessions.
Is that kind of what you were thinking? A few caveats: the game choose's a zone's music the first time you enter/generate the zone, and then, that's basically "baked in" to the zone. There are some way to "change" music mid-level, but, I think at least the first version of this addon, you'd have to choose all your music in the main menu BEFORE starting a game (or at least, before entering a zone for the first time), you wouldn't be able to enter a zone, say "I don't like this music", and then change it: it would all need to be done "before you get there".
Also, since it only takes OGGs, you'd have to at least be experienced enough to convert whatever wavs/mp3s you have laying around. Not difficult, but something to consider.
Does that kind of line up with what you were thinking?

That sounds like a great approach! File conversion wouldn't be an issue, and my interest has just been switching around stock sound music files. It would be cool, though, to be able to put additional OGGs in an accessible location for your addon to use. Thanks for thinking about this!

While this would undoubtedly be the most flexible option, it would be pretty complex (a very long list, particularly if you are going to include subzones) and it would be a spoiler for those that hadn't completed the game.
Since most people (and the original poster) were looking at replacing a single track, a simpler option could be just to list the track names and allow these to be changed.
If you just overwrite the .ogg files (keeping a backup copy of the original) that would presumably fix this issue.
