I'm playing as a ghoul necromancer. I went to Angolwen at level 11. I auto-explored like always, and was stopped early because Linaniil was fighting. She blasted me multiple times for a few thousand points of damage. Being a resilient person, I survived this. I thought at first that I must have accidentally gone in without my deceptive cloak, but glancing to the right, I saw that the cloak effect was on. I dismissed my minions (in case they were bothering her somehow) and leapt to safety. Linaniil continued to fight, I think. But I don't know why.
I spent a lot of time loitering near the entrance, and then returned. She was still fighting and had lost most of her health. I tried leaving the town and returning, but she didn't stop fighting. Yet somehow she never died.
I think I know more or less why she never died: She's Linaniil, she's got Draconic Body, she's got lots of other stuff. She can survive a lot. I have at least one idea of why she was hurt: She had Blood Pact, with a negative cooldown I think, and so she could sacrifice parts of herself quite often. But... why was she fighting?
Here are some screenshots showing her active effects and talents and stuff: https://imgur.com/a/y2DV4Hn
Why is Linaniil fighting?

Re: Why is Linaniil fighting?
When something hostile appears in Lin's LOS, its blast-time.
Halloween Ghosts can trigger this.
The Evoker addon's demon can cause this.
These are unlikely to be at cause in your case, they are offered by way of example.
Auto-explore in Angolwen is not recc.
Tread lightly where the most dangerous thing in the game holds court.

Re: Why is Linaniil fighting?
Hmm. Going near her without my cloak could have started this, but I didn't do that. She isn't pursuing me anyway, and I can't think of anything else that she might have considered an enemy. In fact I don't think I've seen her use a single offensive ability. She's got her arcane storm swirling around, but that seems to be a side effect of Disruption Shield, a defensive ability. I think she might not even be trying to attack anything at all.
Oh well, I'm a ghoul. I should be able to sneak in and have a quick chat with her before she manages to destroy my resilient body, when the time comes for Urkis to be dealt with. That's assuming she doesn't succeed in killing herself before then, of course.

I'm a bit late to the party but:
If Linaniil rolls Demonologist as a random class, she can get Blood pact talent. Blood pact deals damage to self in exchange of a buff. The AI sees this as a beneficial buff button and presses it every time it can, which results in repeated self damage taken, which is absorbed by Disruption shield and thus the Disruption shield eventually explodes, dealing major arcane damage to everyone nearby.

That's some Nethack-level absurdity.Moasseman wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 7:18 pm I'm a bit late to the party but:
