Possesor class

#1 Post by shkkk »

Hello guys, Im a big fan of Tales and i love the possesor class but there is a thing about it, that bugs me a lot.

If a possesor POSSES a body, shouldnt be able to use all the specifics of the body aswell? I mean, if i possess a creature that holds a shield i should be able to use shield based talents aswell, shouldnt i? Do you know if i missed any talent or if there is a mod for change this fact? I fell really stupid to posses a shooter corpse and "need to have a shooting weapon equipped" (Like the original body didnt had it) or a stealter and i cant use it because my possesor has heavy armor on..

Thanks for the time :D

I'm not sure I understand what specifically is giving you trouble, so let me know if I'm answering the question you're asking.

Your equipment is determined by whatever you are wearing when you possess a body - the extradimensional space you store bodies in cannot hold their equipment. You cannot change equipment while you are possessing a host body, although you can quick-swap between your two weapon sets while in a body (it's the "~" button for me, can't remember whether I remapped it to that or that's the default), this may help resolve your ranged weapon issues. On the upside, you still get to loot killed enemies the normal way, so that you can kill an enemy and if they drop good gear you can wear it in another body. If I were given the choice I would not trade this ability in exchange for each body having preset equipment that cannot be altered, YMMV.

Zizzo has a couple of mods that help show what talents are weapon dependent when choosing a body, so that you can know whether a talent is worth choosing with your preferred equipment loadout. My preference is the Possessor Tweaks mod, as it just creates more information transparency without buffing Possessor.

I mean that I found "odd" to possess for example a rogue body with stealth abilities and i cant use them because my "char" is in heavy armor. It should check the body not the host in my opinion

Sorry, I refer to the bodies you have available from your Possess ability as "hosts" and the body you chose during character creation as your "base form." What you call the body I call the host - it's not important to me you use the same nomenclature, just want to be clear about what I meant.

The Possess ability says "if the target dies with the web in place you will capture its body and store it in a hidden psionic reserve." It doesn't say you store its gear with its body, and you don't. If you want to be stealthy, you have to take off heavy armor in your base form before assuming the form of the stealthy body. Or you can certainly use that body and just not choose to learn Stealth.

If this were not the case, and you fought a rogue that was armed with, I dunno, a channeling staff in its hand, then whenever you assumed the form you would be stuck using its staff. Which would be much less fun than, say, Sawrd. I'm not saying you should also prefer it that way, just that this would be a consequence of the approach you are advocating for (which, to me, would make almost all hosts unplayably bad - I am likely to have much better gear than the creatures I tend to encounter, given that I've hoovered up the best of the best I encounter over the course of the whole game).

This make sense idd, even if I see it like a huge misopportunity in using that class. Even tho it's still one of my favourites :(
