First time on insane

#1 Post by roffster »

So after my 3rd win on Nightmare, I decided to try insane. Made myself a nice ogre brawler, went around and drowned everything, found some nice gear, got to level 7 and cleared the derth arena before entering trollmire.

Trollmire was really easy, I was wondering what all the fuss was about when I entered Norgos' Lair. Stepped into a clearing, saw 4 rares. Figured this would be a good time to run away, at which point I got stunned, put to sleep and constricted all in the same turn. Poor brawler never got to do anything else before expiring. Turns out, Insane is crazy.

Welcome to insane and enjoy your stay. This is where the real fun begins.

(Bpat has a guide for starting insane)

I just started on insane myself. I am growing to hate mobs which teleport/move you in any way with particular hatred felt for the ones which swap positions with you. It is sad when you plan on moving back to some safe place to fight and you get swapped and then blinded and or confused and cannot get back out :(

Insane rocks. Once you get used to it you can never return to lower difficulty

I had a ton of fun on my first insane run. Wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Picked Ogre Reaver, got to level ... 12 I think?, and like you did found an impassible wall of rare/boss monsters I did not have the damage or mitigation to overcome in Norgos Lair. Tried Heart of the Gloom zone, and that place was just SWARMING with mobs. Screen was a river of monsters coming at me. Almost beat them all with dark portal skill but a rare had the ranged damage to cut me down, and that was my final life.

Very exciting and a whole different game compared to normal or even nightmare. I only have one win, Nightmare EoR with Sawbutcher, so I need to get better before I'm ready for insane.

Kept on playing insane, and after around 15 attempts, I found out that if i can get past Norgos Lair, it's a smooth run until I start T2's, where I get eaten by the maze.

There's a definite learning curve, but I find Insane more fun than the lower difficulties most of the time. Having enemies with lots of talents makes the gameplay more interesting.

I wrote a post on getting started with Insane here. Insane's tough, especially at first, but it's a lot of fun.

Thanks for that. It was very helpful, even just the updated zone order. I can now consistently get through to the T2's, instead of just always dieing in Norgol's Lair.
