ToME 4 1.3.1 runs extremely slow

#1 Post by mgdark »

Well i used to play ToME4 like in the version 1.2.5 or something, and i could just play it normally (i only needed to reopen the game after a few hours because memory leaks) but i stopped playing it.

Now i get the newest version by launcher, and now i can barely open the game, is stuttering and menus and game are unrenposive, i tried safe mode and disabling all the graphics and that doesnt works.

There is a recent change that could cause this behavior? Tried with a clean install, either didnt worked.

The only recent change that could cause this only applies if you are playing a Temporal Warden.

Ok i fixed it, it was a really stupid fix, but i will post it in case someone gets the same problem as me.

Im using Windows 10, which was a upgrade from Windows 7 (when i used to play ToME4 perfectly), eventually windows update "updated" my graphic card drivers (i suppose to give more support to W10)

Looking in the Intel Support for the "lastest" driver i found this: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downlo ... t-Web-Link
OpenGL* is an API (Application Programming Interface) for 3D graphics that is used by many games. OpenGL enables hardware acceleration of 3D graphics, so support is required from the graphics drivers for optimum performance. The latest graphics drivers will usually provide the best compatibility with games that use OpenGL. Graphics drivers that come with Microsoft Windows* or that are downloaded from Windows Update typically do not support OpenGL.
Having read that, then i downloaded the lastest driver (it had only for Vista and 7), and when i tried to install it, Windows told me that the version of the driver i were going to install was a few revisions older than the one installed. I decided to try it anyway, well installed, pc reboot and now...

My ToME4 works now!

Sorry for the long post, but i hope it can help another person with the same issue

The win update drivers not having openGL seems like a really bad idea on Microsoft's part.
