the "rogue like BS of the year" award goes to...
as everyone know, Rogue like games are random...
the randomness can cause some boring, interesting, or infuriating situation.
-Random naga myrmidon in the maze that is WAY above your lvl
-spawning an escort which is already surrounded by a few mobs and the boss.
-phase dooring into a boss room.
-aggravating the merchant with an AoE spell, that is supposed to not hurt allies,
but, todays story, i think takes the cake. why? cause the terrain itself contributed to it. AFTER it was generated.
after defeating the first big room, i noticed that there were open doors, and few more undead came out of it.
after killing the random ghouls, i decided to investigate the door, and the corridor. and then I fell into a trap.
i walked to the other door, and before i realized whats happening, the door (green box) and adjacent walls(yellow lines) disappeared, allowing ALL the undead in the room to aggro on me. Simultaneously, a wall (too red lines) appeared behind me, making retreat impossible. it is possible to teleport OUT of a vault, but all abilities i had too short of a range.
also, i was constantly being confused with 50% chance move randomly.
the wall that appeared is not diggable, which means its a part of the vault. way to go DG, or whoever designed this vault...
I kept the minimap on the image, so maybe someone recognize the vault.

Welcome to the Greater Crypt, if the traps don't get you, the liches will.
Re: the "rogue like BS of the year" award goes to...
also, i am lvl 27, and enemies here are 50+...
Re: the "rogue like BS of the year" award goes to...
Does this vault give a warning before you go into it?
I'm not being facetious just trying to understand the problem. The shifting walls were inside the vault right? Not walls outside the vault that trapped you inside of it?

Yeah, I've had this before too. On the south side of the vault, there's a trap that spawn an undiggable wall behind you. To my knowledge, there's no way out except teleporting and you can't get back in that section of the vault after you teleport out. There may be some sneaky trick to getting in/out, but I couldn't find one.
Re: the "rogue like BS of the year" award goes to...
The level of enemies being above yours is a common place in even the lowest vaults. You'll find that enemy level usually only means the amount of time you spend on them and not the tactics you use.
As for the trap... Well, it's a vault. They're meant to be challenges (read: death traps).
Sorry for your loss, and good luck next time!

Re: the "rogue like BS of the year" award goes to...
when i entered i had the "ITS A VAULT!" warning.
nothing about shifting walls. I know that some vaults can have "locked door" but this is a first.
out of nowhere, i am suddenly surrounded by enemies WAY above my lvl, and no way out.
however you excuse it "cause its a vault" this is still by far the most BS event i have ever seen in this game.
Still, that does not mean i will stop playing...
if you were in a worse situation, feel free to post it here.

That vault has a couple of secret passages, the one you need to find to clear the southern path has a visual cue pointing it out. It's also possible to re-enter that room from the outside if you teleported out.Effigy wrote:Yeah, I've had this before too. Vault teleport code is changed in 1.3 too. I'm not sure if it would have helped this situation or not but in the future you'll be able to teleport around in vaults and out of vaults. Just not from one vault to another or from a non-vault into a vault.
So hopefully situations like this will feel more forgiving.

Trying a Dreadfell greater vault at that level? Without a good teleport?

My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.

what killed me were not the monsters alone, BUT but the fact that i was stuck with no way out, and mass confusion preventing any deffence. who expect the way behind to randomly close? seriously.
but i guess i should get a teleport rune.

That's exactly what traps are about. You get trapped, dear adventurer!Radon26 wrote:what killed me were not the monsters alone, BUT but the fact that i was stuck with no way out, and mass confusion preventing any deffence. who expect the way behind to randomly close? seriously.
That said, I don't get your anger. Dreadfell is horribly dangerous even outside of the vaults. If you even entered one of the very small vaults you should instantly understand that Dreadfell's vaults are no joke. they have more traps than any of the previous dungeons visited and usually have more and tougher monsters than other vaults. Dreadfell even has unique minibosses that can beat the crap out of you with ease.
It's true, Dreadfell is nasty and its vaults even more so. Though RNG is not the reason for it in this case. It's a scripted trap and you simply fell for it because you were greedy for loot and ignored all of the many warning signals. Dreadfell is dangerous. It is. Finally understood?
Going into dreadfell without a teleport rune? You have ballsbut i guess i should get a teleport rune.

Good luck for the next run!

Re: the "rogue like BS of the year" award goes to...
yes i have understood it... 10 days ago!
dredfall is dangerous... i know the monsters there have high lvls and some nasty abilities.
many warning signs? all you get is that its a vault as far as i remember.
i know vaults have traps...
like "spawn 3 fireballs that explode in 3 turns"
or "splash acid EVERYWHERE"
even "arcane beam that is not actually arcane"
i have seen "alarm" trap and i have heard of "telleport" trap...
i have NEVER seen the walls to move on its own.
i had a clear path behind me and a closed path in front of me.
if i had just peaked what's on the other side of the door i would...
eat a fireball? maybe some mana thrusts? i would be really confused for sure...
but i would survive that...
i would go back, and have the few monsters after me.
what happened instead, one wall collapsed in front of me, allowing ALL the monster to pile on me, and another wall appeared, cutting off my escape route. I know rogue-likes are random, and have a tendency of killing the players... but as i said, THIS is a first to me.
i was able to survive 10-20 turns no problem. toughness is not an issue,
when i hit someone, i throw flames everywhere. damage is not a problem. i can handle vaults...
being suddenly exposed to 15 mobs, while unable to act, or even cover myself behind a wall... it was just a matter of time.
next time i see this vault, i WILL know... but that was a first.

That's a good warning for the rest of us, as to what can happen, and to be prepared.
My nasty Dreadfall experience happened with my halfling archer who opened a vault and had some really high level nasty liches come out who darkened everything and send armies of shadows after me. I had to run around for so long kiting the summons then FINALLY after many attempts finishing off the liches, with a lot of close calls.

Re: the "rogue like BS of the year" award goes to...
I remember opening a Dreadfell vault, taking a few steps forward, and dying instantly to a massive hailof arrows unleashed by a dozen or so master skeleton archers. The moral of that particular story was to scout first, as another character killed them easily by manipulating lines of sight to make sure only a couple could fire at a time.
