Anorithils are quite fun, and rock early and late game. Mid game can be a bit tough, but generally, they can breeze through a lot of the game if you're somewhat careful. There are also nice short guides for them out there.

Weird. I always thought Anorithils have it harder early and late, and really shine in the midgame. Difference in playstyle?

Whenever it is you make your transition from being a normal spellcaster to being a crit-based, Corona spewing, disco laser shooting, on hit(spell) machine is when it'll be harder. Normally you do that once you have your core talents maxed out, but if you go for it right off the bat then you will have an exceedingly difficult early game and a slightly easier midgame.

Lategame is hard if you didn't get Circles or you're not stacking crit/crit multiplier.

Even with Circles (I just can't imagine an Anorithil without Circles!), a recurrent problem in the lategame is the lack of consistent and focused high damage potential (relative to other classes, which also stack crit and crit multiplier.) Anorithils still shine vs crowds, but many bosses and rares remain a problem, even when faced 1-on-1. (Arguably, some lategame artifacts - e.g., the Black Robe - can help considerably in the end.)

I felt that once I got the crit-machine going, anything was a breeze, really. Drop a few circles, cast a spell, watch everything die from Corona. Then again, when I got to High Peak, I did have the Black Robe, and two more items with spellprocs to boot. I did not feel like I was lacking in damage before I got those, though. Focused... yeah, not so much. But consistent? Definitely.

Consistent, to me, means I can keep the pressure on those annoying ranged bosses/rares that stay out of Corona/Hymn of Moonlight range or your circles' radius, and firing a beam once every 3 turns doesn't do that, even with procs (maybe it might on normal difficulty, but I don't play normal anymore.) Investment in Staff Combat helps a lot in these situations, but then you're relying on things that aren't part of the class.

I used a movement infusion for that; on normal at least, few enemies actually survive the first two turns of combat, and rarely get out of range in time to survive. As for higher difficulties, I have no experience, but since the OP was talking about beating the game for the first time, anything beyond normal should be safe to ignore for now. :)

Fair enough. Although at this point, I thought we had firmly drifted onto whether Anorithils shine better midgame or early/late, and I doubt the difficulty level has anything to do with that (of course, I could be wrong on this)

I would never let a conversation drift...
Maybe it's a question of where we set the boundaries of the mid game?

Could be, although I tend to think it's more a question of priorities. For instance, I have a feeling many people go full Corona/Hymns of Shadows before Circles, I tend to do the opposite. Also, I get staff combat asap. I don't invest in Corona or Hymn of Moonlight at all until I know I can cope with the negative energy drain.

Damn, how the hell I beat this game? I've done it as a Thalore AM Bulwark and a Halfling Rogue some versions ago, and tried pretty much every class by now without success

The game is hell easy until I go to Far East to fight Prides (after killing the backup guardians). The game gets insane and I die until I give up (on exploration mode, or just the first death for roguelike)

I even managed to get to the final boss as a Solip and another Bulwark, but couldn't finish the game with neither

I always wonder at that... the main difficulty to me always seems to survive Daikara and Dreadfell (mainly Dreadfell). After that, everything is comparably easy usually as my build comes together, the equipment gets decent and everything just falls into place. I can still die, of course, most often due to getting careless, but in general, once I get to the East, winning the game seems relatively easy.
