Which classes can win on Insane difficulty?

#1 Post by Salo »

Question is pretty straight forward I think. I'm of course talking about the new insane difficulty.

I had a look at the character vault. There aren't that many classes present on insane above level 40 since 1.2.0:
http://te4.org/characters-vault?tag_nam ... y[]=insane# :
- Archmage, http://te4.org/characters/106160/tome/f ... 5b6be31d36,
- Oozemancer, http://te4.org/characters/124463/tome/e ... 90a4283c76
- Solipsist, http://te4.org/characters/104175/tome/0 ... ddcde79b83
- Sun Paladin, there are many, for example http://te4.org/characters/20937/tome/a6 ... c3ebe1e876 (roguelike)
- Anorithil, http://te4.org/characters/8893/tome/702 ... caeade2f8b (roguelike)
- Skirmisher, http://te4.org/characters/121089/tome/2 ... 18de5d2c80
- Summoner, http://te4.org/characters/106160/tome/4 ... 7f26b2b259
- Doomed, http://te4.org/characters/21602/tome/03 ... 6908d5eae9 (me)

What about the other classes? Are they viable? I also expect that Berserkers and Marauders could be viable because of Unstoppable abuse, but I'm not sure. Arcane Blades might be good enough as well and I haven't yet had the chance to test out the new Brawlers and Mind Slayers so I don't know about them. So, are Bulwarks and Archers viable? Rogues and shadowblades? Cursed and Wyrmic? Corruptors and reavers?

Are Skeletons/Ghouls viable? (I honestly haven't managed to get one out of their starting zone on insane yet)

Side note: am I wrong in assuming that all classes are viable on nightmare difficulty?

With the new changes, I think it's hard to know what's viable until people try out more classes. Part of it is also luck, in my opinion. I made two attempts at a Ghoul Brawler on Nightmare. The first didn't find a single glove, not even in shops, and died a miserable death early on because he was only doing like ten damage per turn against things with hundreds of hp. The second found a pair of gloves that did a ton of extra damage per hit, and just steamrolled everything in his path until I got bored. I think pretty much every class should be able to beat insane provided the stars align correctly, some just have better chances than others.

+1

Every class can beat nightmare so every class should be able to beat insane. When you pick class you should keep in mind that saves and immunities are very important and often one save vs (for example) stone touch can make a huge difference.

Stition won with Wyrmic so I assume winning with any class is possible.
My wiki page, which contains a guide and resource compilation and class tier list.
