lookin for tips on my 'lazy' build

#1 Post by riron »

yo guys. i just came back to this awesome game since my computer is getting repaired and im stuck with my laptop. im currently gunning for my first win with Magidorf, my lvl 40 dwarf archmage, but im asking about another character i have going here:

when i lie down for the night to watch some tv and doze off, i've been enjoying playing this game with one hand in my mind's 'background'. i dont have the luxury of using a mouse, or my left hand to hit my hotkeys since i prefer to keep it between my head and my pillow while im lying down and watching tv.

the character ive been playing with in this position is a dwarf bulwark. the rules i set for myself: all i do is click on things with my touchpad to attack. the only skills i ever want to bother clicking on are my infusions if my screen gets red. so its just autoattack+infusions. its actually been pretty entertaining thinking of how to optimize my character around this supremely lazy playstyle. my strategy is to stack +life regen and +healing mod, armor and resists, and level only passive talents.

i have a couple questions regarding this playstyle-

-does shield blocking happen automatically or do you have to activate the block skill? im not familiar with the mechanic since ive only played spellcasters.

-is there a better starting class you can think of that would suit this playstyle? i only have about half of the unlockables, but it seems like bulwark by far gets the most tanky passives

-how far do you think one can get with such a character? im gonna find out!

thanks in advance for any replies. good to be playing again.

You need to activate Block, but it can be autocasted just like any other talent.

I won with Ghoul Bulwark a while back and it was really smooth running. Didn't block at all, just used the shield bashes and stuff. Stacked healmod and whenever things went south I puked.

Dunno if autoattack is enough but melee talents often don't require mouse targeting.

Cursed might be even better class than than Bulwark though.
Stronk is a potent combatant with a terrifying appearance.

I'm also a lazy gamer, and have lost many many characters due to mouse-only late night play. It can be done though, i won with a berserker using mouse only.

Biggest tip is the mouse shortcuts, on your key config menu, ther far right column is specifically for mouse shortcuts. If you hold the right mouse down and move it in specific ways you can do just about anything on that menu.

I need to update my config for the newer patches since some of my shortcuts have become irrelevant with new features, but basically I bind all of my most often used talents / commands to the mouse. RMB + Left = an instant cast wild infusion or equivalent, RMB+Right = Regen or heal or shield or whatever isn't instant cast. I try to set it up where Left affects the current status effects and Right affets my health bar. This save me time by not having to go to my hotkey bar everytime i get stunned.

I can "shake it off" by resting. RMB + LRL to "shake" the cobwebs out of my character's head

I can set up my most often used talents to use Street Fighter-esque movements, like D,DF,F to cast a fireball or D,DL,L to block with my shield. It adds a little bit of fun to the game, and also saves time moving back and forth from the hotkey bar.

Let me know if you come up with something clever using these mouse shortcuts!

edit - shit, this is the exact opposite of what you were looking for! Well, as far as one handed play goes, I think the mouse is a much better option than the one-handed keyboard technique. for whatever that's worth :)
