How does shielding... uhm, work?

#1 Post by jpwrunyan »

Hi, I couldn't find Spell / Aegis in the wiki, but I have a question about the "Shielding" ability. Does it actually add any shielding to yourself? It sounds like it ONLY affects other shields, is that right? And what is a "damage shield"? The other shields it mentions (time, displacement, and disruption) appear to be general talents. Also, how do you get a "disruption shield"? Anyway, if someone can give me the run down of how all these skills work with Shielding active, I would appreciate it. I have no idea if I am using it to any effect.

Damage shields come from things like the Shielding rune. The Disruption Shield is a very nice talent in the Spell/Arcane tree that negates incoming damage and converts it into mana.

Ok, I managed to piece that together. I guess the main thing to keep in mind is that this skill is not useful if you have no source of damage shield. Like if you carelessly overwrote your damage shield runes.

EDIT: one more thing... do damage shields stack? I could potentially activate one with a rune and then activate another using the 3rd Spell / Aegis skill (adds a damage shield when you use a healing ability).

Damage shields don't stack.

Note that the Aegis skill also applies to the Skeleton's generic shield.

Damage Shields can be obtained from Shielding runes, the third Aegis talent, Neira's Memory artifact belt, Skeleton racial talent, the third Light talent. That is all I can think of.

The Shielding talent makes them more powerful, but doesn't do anything by itself.

Note that with the second and third Aegis skills maxed and a bit of healing modifier, you can get as much or even more shield out of direct healing infusions than from shielding runes. (though they useally don't last as long)
