I dunno, I find those stubby protuberances more than a little suggestive.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).

rofl silly

Meh, I wouldn't plan on playing it at all if the workplace was uptight enough that fully-clothed cartoon boobs (nice as they are) would offend someone.

The main thing I think is funny is they're apparently... augmented. The things people do with magic. :D

I'm uptight enough to be offended by the cartoon boobs myself :P I'm not sure why a deep and challenging tactical game needs a male teenage power fantasy image on the front.

And it really really wouldn't be okay to have that on my screen at work.

The image in this threadwould be suitable too, especially the GUI free one further down the thread.

It's been added to a rotating set of backgrounds for the next version. Unfortunately another absurdly booby picture has been added too.

I personally don't find it in the least bit offensive -- it's just cleavage in a dress that wouldn't be considered particularly scandalous were the breasts not somewhere in the DD size and threatening to burst out of the seams -- but it would seem wise to offer the option for images that don't make passing co-workers take a second look. Unless you want them to take a second look, in which case we need the option for one wearing pasties and a g-string too. :)

Of course, if you're playing ToME at work and regularly have people looking at your screen, you probably don't worry overmuch about what people think, since you're openly engaged in recreation during work time. My boss, sad to say, Would Not Approve. He's more of a Solitaire person anyway.

I wouldn't call it *offensive*, but it's a bit fanservicey. Kind of gives the wrong impression to people who happen to see it.

Only if they are so inclined. When I first fired ToME up, I didn't think 'omg boobs'. I thought 'ooh this has nice graphics for a roguelike'.

Honestly, the old splash screen reminded me a little of this (gets progressively more NSFW as you scroll down). And obviously in a bad way.

The current version IS the work friendly version.

It was not always so.

Pretty much my reaction. It's classic fantasy imagery in a genre that's traditionally relied on us imagining that a "O" was a 8 foot tall humanoid with a club and "*" was a chunk of crumbling dungeon wall. I loved all of the ASCII, of course, but there's nothing wrong with being impressed with a splash-screen depicting a massive armored knight and an admittedly well-endowed female mage. It's only "fanservicey" (assuming I'm interpreting the word correctly) if one assumes that "fanservice" is the only place one sees women with large breasts. I know several females who would disagree with that assumption. Now, if she were wearing nothing but a bikini-sized breastplate and a short skirt while wielding a giant sword in one hand, then we might be edging toward prurient lack of credibility.

I might be remembering wrong, but wasn't she totally topless in the first version? I think it was original b32, not the 32a or b revs. The beta I'm talkin about isn't downloadable from the tome site anymore.
