I've got to say that no class is more !!FUN to use than an Archmage for the purpose of running an infinite dungeon playthrough, especially with all the trees at its disposal on hand. This is even funnier than my broken alchemist capable of slaughtering adventuring parties easily. Even if I get in hairy situations teleport or phase door solves all my problems. Throw in arcane reconstruction to get something approximating a full heal at one's level even with a couple points in, a good manasurge rune and tons of willpower to up my mana and feed a couple of very nice sustains, and attack spells which two-shot or three-shot enemies well above my level (in vaults and from events), along with arcane eye to spy out trouble, you have something that's so sustainable it's a palpable thing. I defeated 3 level 30 luminous horrors in a vault using nothing but lightning and manathrust, which killed them dead in 5-7 turns each.
Seriously, this is funny stuff. I managed to kite the level 25 monolith event boss to death using lightning and flame at level 5 on the first floor. The crown on her head is now my current headgear once I got enough cunning through items and stats. At the same time, I destroyed a unique level 30 Uruivellas Bulwark from the pedestal event with those selfsame two spells before fighting this boss. And the only escape "skill" I possessed was Phase door.

Admittedly, had she even *thought* of using that ability the crown had on me, I'd be dead and regretting that decision.
Archmage is best class for kiting.
For the record I'm dlvl 10 due to enter 11, at level 16.
