Maximum Talent Trees Possible

#1 Post by ohioastro »

I've been browsing the character vault to look at successful builds used for winning characters. I'm noticing something odd: there are a lot of toons flagged as winners who have access to many more talent trees than I thought possible. It was my understanding that you got a maximum of three (four if Cornac), fewer if you used some for runes or infusions. Furthermore, I had thought that you needed to burn a category point even if you got a talent tree as an escort reward. And yet even if I filter on adventure (or roguelike) / class / winner / maj'eyal (to avoid arena or ID) I find characters with additional choices. Are there some choices that both give you the chance at a free tree without spending points? If not, how do you do this?

It's possible they cheated.

Can you link a small sample of the characters you're looking at? Say 2 to 5 depending on how bored you are?

I believe there's a late-game item that grants an additional category point. Also, I think if you start with Harmony as a locked tree, the Sandworm Queen Heart will unlock it.

There is (and so the maximum is four on a normal character, five on a cornac), and as a general rule if you pick up something that would normally grant you a locked tree when your class natively has that tree, said tree will be unlocked. Harmony on wilders and hexes on defilers are good examples.

There's also combat training, which anyone can unlock if they don't have it or have the tree locked (I can't recall any of the latter, though) for a small price.

Here is what I got for adventurer / summoner / winner / maj'eyal filter:

http://www.te4.org/characters/10091/tom ... 55859c8e2d

3 slots, anti-magic, summoning (advanced), summoning (augmentation), fungus, mindstar mastery unlocked

http://www.te4.org/characters/50/tome/6 ... 06579abe51

4 slots, Harmony, summoning (advanced), summoning (augmentation), mindstar mastery unlocked

http://www.te4.org/characters/4348/tome ... 65f0f61126

4 slots, Harmony, summoning (advanced), summoning (augmentation), combat veteran unlocked

http://www.te4.org/characters/14156/tom ... b97bb0b00c

5 slots, Harmony, summoning (advanced), summoning (augmentation) unlocked

http://www.te4.org/characters/9636/tome ... 25900d6212

5 slots, Harmony, summoning (advanced), summoning (augmentation) unlocked

That's 5 of the first 6 winners listed among summoners. If you unlock the Harmony tree for free if you use the Sandworm Queen that could explain some of it.

Yeah, these all look legit.

Here's an example of a cheater...

http://te4.org/characters/27/tome/6bf5d ... aed9653eb5

Notice the mastery levels and talent point spread (5 in everything).

I don't know if he's cheating through the console or if he knows some exploit but basically he's duping the SWQ Heart and Wyrm Bile.

And here's another one...

http://te4.org/characters/27/tome/02b66 ... 773bea7c54

Note the mastery in Harmony (from eating all the SWQ hearts).

Also, Wild-gift/Antimagic starts unlocked. Wouldn't be very nice if the quest shuttered off arcane items and only gave you a locked tree.
<Ferret> The Spellblaze was like a nuclear disaster apparently: ammo became the "real" currency.
