Post your stupid/hilarious death

#1 Post by supermini »

Well, I'll get started.

Playing a cornac Corruptor, I get to the bottom of Lake Nim. After avoiding/kiting a Worm that Walks that was blocking the entrance for 10 minutes or so, I make it in.

So I fire a Soul Rot projectile at the weirdling beast, it bone grabs me, and I oneshot crit myself, since now I'm in the way of the projectile.

Bhahaha :)

Stupid death:

Switching over from playing an Anorithil to a Doomed character of mine, inside the old forest, I mistakenly decide to "rest" to recover after loading up the save. I had quit right after a harrowing battle, and watched myself drain my hate from 30ish down to 0 in the blink of an eye.

Caution became me (as did frustrated at myself for such an elementary mistake) and I decided instead of attempting the next level down, lets go hunt some easy monster on a level one dungeon, and out I went to the main map.

Did I fail to mention I was originally chased into the Old Forest whilst being pursued by an Adventurer party?

I promptly died to it :D

--------------------------

Funny Death:

Probably the most amusing to me is the time I passed the antimagic trial on a skeleton (I really just wanted to try it out...) and then attempted to talk to Myssil to see if she'd have anything in particular to say- not realizing the cloak of deception is arcane powered.

Myssil slaughtered my unnatural natural worshipping self quite quickly.

The second entry in my book of stupid hilarious deaths is again, a self one shot crit, courtesy of a boulder throw from the opposite direction.

I'm starting to hate corruptors.

My favorite of mine was to an adventurer party, I was a cormac wyrmic. I surprised the alchemist, dragged the sun paladin into darkness, barely bested the mindslayer... And completely forgot about the golem who was hiding behind tree cover. One eye beam, and then a rushing attack and I was gone

My absolute favorite was a bug.

Came from using the Arcane Blade retool mod(v20, I believe, or maybe it was v21), though I wasn't actually playing one. Was playing Skeleton Archmage.

Come across Grushnak. He promptly Shield Pummeled me.

This would hit me, generate a LUA error, and hit me, again and again, over and over, until death, in one action.

It angered me at the time, but the mental image of someone doing a Fist of the North Star style Shield Pummel has always amused me since. (It was pretty stressful trying to beat him without getting into Shield Pummel range, too, but I managed, after the one death, very slowly.)

This is technically a death, even though it was negated by the Blood Life (or was that Life Blood?) elixir. But it was pretty stupid.

So last night I visited the Sandworm cave/lair for the first time. Didn't realize how it worked until I was suffocating and panicking, trying to catch up with the worm just a step too far behind. Shield didn't help much.... So, didn't make it.

After the elixir brought me back I took a look at my hotkey bar and realized that I'd had both my Phase Door and Movement Infusions just sitting there, waiting for me to ask them to save my sorry ass.

What I did right that time: before entering the cave I cleared away two adventurers groups who were stalking nearby (Time Prison sounds real bad, glad I managed to "shrug it off") so that I didn't have to deal with them on my way back overloaded with loot and wearing every single Carrying Capacity item I had :)

Facechecking the Room of Death figuring it wouldn't be enough to kill me.

Another one in whick I didn't die but went down to like 50hp. Entered Grushnak Pride and having a REALLY hard time in the first barracks fighting a bunch of orcs, having to use every single cooldown just to stay alive, healing wasn't doing much and having to run around pillars and stuff. Later inspection revealed I had picked up everyone's most hated artifact :S.

Highpeak 6, Mindslayer.

There is a demon type randoboss enemy across from me, either Anorithil or Sun Paladin. No worries, they don't do a lot of damage at high range and at any rate I'm shielded with 1100 HP. Berserker in front of me. Again, no worries, yet, I can't possibly be one-shotted by the two of them.

Wrong.

Mindlash the demon, demon explodes into a 500 damage Retribution. Bad enough, but no big deal.

Then Counterattack status pops up on my Mindslayer. I had gotten my Mindlash Riposte'd. The Berserker bops me with Stunning Blow, crits and splatters the rest of my life off.

Insert the sad horn of your choice here.

Playing an archmage. Ran into a weapon that disrupted arcane and had lots of pluses. Only question, would it affect me too? One way to find out. I equipped it. Played awhile without encountering anything much and had to stop. When I restarted I forgot I had a test going. Big mistake. I ran into an adventure party and was doing alright when all of a sudden my attack failed then my shield failed then my emergency teleport failed. By then I was dead. Came back and almost the same thing happened. Then I took a careful look at the log and remembered. It's amazing how fast you can transmogrify an equipped item when motivated. I ended up going through most of the first level of the maze without a melee weapon until I found a good one again.

And here's part 2 for the previous berzerker who got saved by the life blood in part 1.

Few elemental resists, ran into two high level magic users. Tried fighting for a bit, but health reduced to 200HP and then shield broken in a single turn. Decided to hightail it out of there, invoked movement infusion, and then, just in case, the physical/mental wild infusion. Next turn - booom.

Invocation order FTL.

Then last good run ended yesterday, when I decided to try out the anti-magic side of things with a level 19 zerker, only to learn that the tree depends heavily on Willpower, into which I'd placed not a single point.

3 levels later, an orc archer rare killed me while I was confused, my wild mental/physical infusion having been just used up to counter the pin effect, and the artifact I'd been using as a backup unusable due to being arcane powered.

And, probably not silly enough to belong in this thread, but I can't seem to force myself to ignore vaults in Infinite Dungeon, so I haven't been past level 2. On one attempt I got lucky with being able to dispatch an ancient elven mummy and a couple other monsters, with a Snow/Ice giant and a few others being blocked by some stationarry mosses. So what do I do? Kill one of the mosses and get freeze-breathed to death by an orc.

I started a character in the infinite dungeon, left the starting room, walked around a corner, got flame breathed by a lvl 37 orc. Respawned and ran back around the corner, stepped around the next corner in my attempt to get away, killed by a lvl 36 orc with some ice attack.

I wasn't happy, lol.

Did you open any sealed doors? Because I don't recall encountering anyone above level 7 on the first floor of Infinite Dungeon, as long as I leave those doors alone.

I got minced by some undead on the character before that, on floor 3, but that one literally left the starting room, turned a corner, and died.

This is really a series of stupid mistakes, culminating in ultimate stupidity.

My best character ever - level 44 Cornac Berserker, main campaign on Normal/Roguelike.

Got the "Are you out of your mind?!" achievement before getting the critical item, and had to hightail it out there using a combination of Movement and Controlled Phase Door, and barely made it.

So then, a little while later, decided to just farm the Farportal for a while.

And in the Farportal zones, proceded to trigger every single "summon monsters" trap.

One of which spawned, among tons of smaller monsters surrounding me, a Unique Horror. Which had rather high resistances. Which I proceded to fight instead of fleeing right there. And which proceeded to confuse me several times (through 70% conf resistance), and each time I came out, I continued fighting it.

And finally, when down to about 200 health, with items recharging and most skills either stunned or on cooldown, I decide its time to get out. My only escape method is a controled phase door (i had 5 infusion slots, but not a full teleport in any). Which I use, and get to take a single step before the horror blasts me with 300 arcane damage.

I wish I could load that character again just to make sure I HAD used all my available options at that point. It is quite possible that I still had a movement infusion, Speed talent, or even Unstoppable in ready state for use at that point....
