International Roguelike Development Conference - London 2012

#1 Post by Grey »

This year we will be hosting the annual International Roguelike Development Conference in London. It's a good location for transport, and I can arrange us meeting space in a central location. If you'd like to attend please fill in the following Doodle poll with your available dates:

There's a bit more info about location etc on the RogueBasin page, which will continue to be updated over the weeks:

What is the IRDC I hear you ask? It's an annual meeting that's taken place over the last few years where roguelike developers get together to listen to presentations from one another and chat amongst themselves about various relevant (or irrelevant) things. It's not exclusive to developers mind - any roguelike fan is welcome to attend. You can find info about previous events on RogueBasin. DarkGod has suggested he may be able to make it to this year's event, so this could be your opportunity to get a signed copy of your self-made "I Love ToME" t-shirt :)

Feel free to post questions here.

Come to IRDC and you'll see ;)

It's about having a single hitpoint for both player an enemies, forcing a rethink in how the gameplay operates. I used this in Gruesome, Trapper and Unstoppable to what I believe to be quite interesting effect. My talk will look at those games and analyse how other roguelikes could work with single hit points.

For anyone thinking of attending, note that DarkGod has responded to the Doodle poll as being available on all dates, which means there's a rather high chance of him being there. And I'll probably pester him to do a presentation on ToME or the T-Engine.

I'm not a developer so I would be somewhat out of place on a development conference ;P.

Will the one hitpoint model ever be superceded by the 2 and 3 hp model (you have two 'lives' instead of one)? Sorry, but I could not resist this question.

If I wasn't so damn cheap I could go to London, there is a train from Brussels going straight to London (Eurostar) that I could take. Its about 60-110 usd. I think I would rather donate it to tome then :P. That is *if* I would spend that much money. Damn I am cheap.

Bump to remind folks. About 7 weeks to go now! If you haven't booked yet you should really get on it - London gets expensive when booking last minute. Add your details here:

And remember this isn't just for developers, and will be a unique chance to meet DarkGod in person and hear how he pronounces "Maj'Eyal".

Oh, and there's a Facebook event too:
